SummaryQuEra Computing Japan is seeking a qualified candidate to lead a team of researchers to develop algorithms and applications specialized to neutral atom quantum hardware. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of projects with Japanese companies, academic institutions, and government labs by being the technical lead for a team of researchers. This includes taking the lead in creatively prototyping cutting-edge algorithms, identifying “killer applications”, and developing solutions pipelines that drive quantum computing towards practical utility. You will also collaborate with the sales team to identify and follow through on promising leads and collaborations. You will lead your team in delivering positive outcomes to companies through writing scientific papers, presenting results, and writing codebases that leverage neutral atom hardware. The projects will be as diverse as the Japanese quantum ecosystem, from finance and operations research to chemical simulation and generative machine learning.QuEra Computing is the leader in neutral atom quantum computing and is a front runner in the race towards utility-scale quantum computing. In this role, you will be at the cutting edge of quantum computing development. Your contributions and ideas will help steer QuEra and the entire field to practical quantum utility.ResponsibilitiesTechnical owner of projects delivered for customers in Japan and the surrounding regionsIdentify key opportunities for collaboration and projects in conjunction with the sales teamEvaluate the success of projects against their aims, goals, and objectivesLead a team of 3-5 researchers in JapanRepresent QuEra at conferences and eventsAll of these responsibilities will be executed in collaboration with the teams in the US headquarter in Boston. During the onboarding process, the person is expected to spend time in Boston to learn and integrate with the team in the US headquarter.QualificationsPh.D. in applied mathematics, computer science, or quantum physics, or equivalent professional experienceLeadership in quantum algorithm development demonstrated through an exceptional scientific publication record in relevant fieldsIn-depth understanding and relationships with the Japanese quantum ecosystemA proven ability to technically lead a team of 3-5 researchersExperience with technical project managementDemonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teamsStrong written and verbal communication skillsFluent in English and JapanesePreferred QualificationsExpertise in quantum optimization, machine learning, simulation, or quantum foundationsExperience with running algorithms on quantum devicesExperience with near-term quantum error correctionExperience with neutral-atom quantum computingProficiency in PythonQuEra is committed to cultivating a diverse work environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
