Since 2015, Bernheim Gallery has been dedicated to showcasing international contemporary artists with distinct artistic expressions. The Gallery focuses on placing emerging artistic voices within the context of art historical traditions, helping viewers connect their work to shared references and interests. In Fall 2023, Bernheim Gallery expanded to a new permanent location in the heart of Mayfair, London, housed in a five-story classic British listed building. This new space is designed to provide a platform for global artistic talent to reach a broader audience and foster collaborative projects, particularly amplifying the voices of emerging artists. Bernheim Gallery is seeking an experienced hands-on Registrar with knowledge on art handling to join our dedicated and dynamic team in ZURICH. This position requires a minimum of two years experience in a similar role, preferably within the art industry.  The role will be based at Bernheim Gallery in the heart of ZURICH, 4 days per week. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all artworks and exhibitions are properly documented, handled, transported, and cared for according to the highest professional standards. They will oversee all logistics related to the shipment of incoming and outgoing artworks, assist with exhibition preparations, assits shipping companies with customs paperwork, storage management, and provide clients with crating and shipping estimates.  The role requires a strong working knowledge of international customs procedures, and a high level of understanding of registrar and art handling practices. Key responsibilities include: • Manage the gallery’s inventory across onsite and offsite storage facilities in Switzerland and the UK. Manage and maintenance of the two gallery’s storage facilities in Zurich. • Liaise with institutions, clients and artists’ studios to provide estimates and organise incoming and outgoing shipments of artwork.• Coordinate and supervise artwork movements with shipping companies and storage facilities, ensuring best practices in care and handling.• Facilitate documentation for art shipping companies for customs purposes. • Ongoing management of imports, Freepass and Bond status of works, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.• Prepare detailed internal and formal condition reports of artworks for incoming loans, consignments and new inventory.• Manage insurance policies for artworks and maintain accurate insurance records.• Handling and installing art works at the gallery space and by clients. • Liaise, coordinate and manage freelance technicians and oversee the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions.• Maintain and update the gallery’s Artlogic database; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and art management database is required. Candidate Profile:The Registrar should have the ability to manage and execute large-scale projects at the gallery, whilst simultaneously addressing requests that arise day to day in an efficient and timely manner. The Registrar will work very closely with the other members of the gallery team, sharing best practices regarding the movement of artworks for exhibitions and sales. The role will be client facing at times so excellent interpersonal skills are necessary. A category B driving licence is required for this position. A good level of English, both written and spoken, is required; other languages (French, German, etc.) are a plus. The candidate must be highly organised, detail-oriented, dedicated, and flexible. Knowledge of contemporary art and gallery operations are necessary, and experience in using Artlogic is a benefit.
