🇬🇧 JOB DESCRIPTION – Research & Development EngineerReports to: R&D ManagementDepartment: Research & DevelopmentPosition: R&D EngineerLocation: Flexible remote work (up to 3 days/week, 2 days on-site required)Purpose of the RoleTo contribute to the development of multimodal artificial intelligence solutions combining computer vision, natural language processing, and deep learning, in order to design deep learning models (CNN, LLM).The position holder, reporting to the R&D Management, brings strategic and complementary expertise to the team in these areas, supporting the implementation of Avicenna.Ai's technological strategy and the development of innovative, robust products compliant with medical device requirements.Main ActivitiesAlgorithm DevelopmentDevelop and optimize CNN architectures for medical image analysis (segmentation, classification, anomaly detection).Design multimodal architectures combining image processing, NLP, and large language models (LLM).Define performance and robustness metrics for models in line with clinical and regulatory requirements.Ensure compliance of developments with the regulatory framework for medical devices (technical documentation, traceability, validation).Contribute to the continuous evaluation and industrialization of algorithms within product pipelines.Project ManagementIn collaboration with product strategy and clinical validation, analyze needs to propose appropriate software implementation.Serve as an interface between physicians' needs, algorithmic constraints, and performance objectives.Interface and CollaborationWork in coordination with product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and medical experts.Present and explain AI approaches to cross-functional teams and management.Participate in defining and monitoring academic or industrial collaborations.Maintain active surveillance of AI trends (LLM, agentic systems, etc.) and share knowledge within the team.Technical SkillsExcellent command of Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).Expertise in LLM architectures, CNN, and multimodal models.Proficiency in Git and best practices for version control in collaborative work.Familiarity with agentic AI environments.Good understanding of medical imaging issues (DICOM formats, quality constraints, clinical biases).Ability to design and validate end-to-end prototypes: needs definition, design, experimentation, performance analysis.Soft SkillsStrategic vision and ability to influence technological directions.Autonomy, creativity, and scientific rigor.Collaborative mindset and ability to explain complex concepts.Ability to unite and inspire within a multidisciplinary team.Intellectual curiosity and passion for experimentation.Desired ProfileEducation: PhD or Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Computer Vision, NLP, or related field.Experience: Minimum 5 years in AI R&D, applied research, or development of AI-based products.Additional Assets:Experience in regulated medical environments.Participation in open source projects or scientific publications.
