This Job is based in AustraliaResearch Associate/Senior Research Associate (Bioinformatics / Cancer Genomics)Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week)Duration: Fixed Term until 31st Dec 2026 (possible extension, funding dependant)Remuneration: $91K - $150K base, depending on experience (+ 17% Superannuation and leave loading)Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Location: Kensington, NSWThe Molecular Oncology Group, Discipline of Women’s HealthThe Molecular Oncology Group conducts world-leading translational research to improve the survival of patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer, through genetic risk prediction and tumour profiling. Large scale genetic and genomics datasets as well as long-term clinical follow up data are available through the groups leading role in two large international consortia.Why this role matters In this position, you will work with internationally recognised research leader Professor Susan Ramus in the Molecular Oncology group in the Discipline of Women’s Health. The position will identify prognostic markers and develop tumour tests to personalise treatment for ovarian cancer patients, by analysing DNA copy number data from large scale shallow whole genome sequencing.Key Skills RequiredLevel AA PhD in Genomics / Bioinformatics or related discipline, and/or an appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training and/or professional accreditation.Competency in analysis of high dimensional bioinformatic data from preprocessing to analysis in R.Experience in the fields of cancer genetics or genomics an advantage.Experience with supercomputers, github, conda environments, Python & reproducible research documents such as RMarkdown an advantage.Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.Proven high level organisational skills, including the ability to establish priorities, time management, with excellent attention to detailDemonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.Level B (in addition to the above)A minimum of five years post-doctoral research experience.Demonstrated track record in research publications and conference presentations, with outcomes of high quality and high impact.Demonstrated ability to conceptualise novel research questions in areas relevant to cancer / genetics / genomics and to independently develop these into high quality research outputs.Demonstrated ability to coordinate collaborative research projects that include investigators from multiple organisations.Evidence of an increasing trajectory of research excellence and productivity.Full details can be found in the position description.UNSW Benefits And CultureUNSW offer a competitive salary and access to a plethora of UNSW-perks including:Flexible working Additional 3 days of leave over the Christmas Period Access to lifelong learning and career development Progressive HR practices More information on the great staff benefits and culture can be found here.How To ApplyPlease click on Apply now to make an application.
