Chemistry Expert (PhD)Hourly Contract | Part-time Remote | $65 –$85 per hourAbout the RoleA leading AI research initiative is seeking Chemistry PhDs to join a flagship project advancing the capabilities of large language models (LLMs). In this role, you will apply your deep subject-matter expertise across organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry to design challenging problems, evaluate AI outputs, and ensure scientific rigor in training next-generation AI systems.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate and assess complex problems across multiple chemistry subdomains.Evaluate AI-generated responses for accuracy, reasoning, and domain relevance.Provide structured written feedback on chemistry problem sets, mechanisms, and solutions.Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and engineers to iterate and improve model performance.Ensure academic rigor and scientific precision in chemistry content used for model training and evaluation.Ideal QualificationsPhD in Chemistry or a closely related field from a top university.Undergraduate degree completed in the U.S., UK, Canada, or Europe (preferred).Deep subject-matter expertise across core areas of chemistry.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.Prior teaching, research, or publication experience is a plus.Project DetailsStart Date: Immediate.Duration: 1–2 months.Commitment: ~20 hours/week (potential to extend up to 40 hours/week).Schedule: Fully remote & asynchronous — flexible working hours.Compensation & ContractCompetitive hourly rate: $65–$85 USD/hr.Independent contractor classification.Daily payments issued via Stripe Connect.Application & Onboarding ProcessUpload your resume and application form.Complete a short AI-led interview (~15 minutes).Participate in a paid 3-hour work trial to evaluate your ability to deliver chemistry-specific outputs.PS: Mercor team reviews applications daily.
