Job Description

Vacancy: Researcher/Engineer E-nose Sensor Technology (Prototype & AI-Driven Sensing)Location: Remote / The Netherlands Company: Velari – Innovation in Humanitarian Technology Type: Freelance / Contractor (ZZP) Workplace: Work from home / on-site at HTC EindhovenAbout VelariVelari is a young and ambitious startup developing groundbreaking technology to detect landmines and explosive remnants more safely and efficiently. We combine advanced sensing, AI, and innovative hardware to create meaningful social impact in conflict zones worldwide. To support the further development of our detection system, we are looking for a Researcher/Engineer with expertise in E-nose sensor technology and a strong hands-on technical mindset.Job DescriptionAs a Researcher/Engineer E-nose Sensor Technology, you will be responsible for developing a working prototype capable of consistently and reliably detecting TNT particles in the ppb range. You will work with existing e-nose sensors and integrate or configure them in innovative ways so that real-time, repeated measurements (per second) become possible. In addition, you will develop the software layer in which machine learning and AI are used for highly accurate interpretation of e-nose signals. You will work closely with the founders and our R&D team and will have substantial freedom to make technical decisions and test new concepts. What You Will DoConduct research into e-nose spectroscopy methods suitable for detecting explosive materials (including TNT).Modify, optimize and combine existing e-nose sensor hardware into a new prototype.Design and build proof-of-concepts and iterative test setups.Enable real-time data acquisition with high frequency (measurements per second).Develop software for signal processing, filtering, normalization and interpretation.Train and integrate machine learning/AI models for ppb-level detection with high repeatability.Document, analyze and improve prototype performance based on experimental results.Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (hardware, software, data science). What We Are Looking ForMaster’s degree or PhD in physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, optics, electrical engineering, or similar.Proven experience with e-nose spectroscopy (experimental & analytical).Experience with hardware prototyping (optics, sensors, microcontrollers, lasers or similar systems).Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, including experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).Knowledge of signal processing, spectral analysis and data cleaning.Creative, inquisitive and pragmatic mindset: not afraid to test, fail and improve.Independent, structured and strong in documentation.Plus PointsExperience with explosive detection or safety-related domains.Experience with embedded systems or edge AI.Experience with optical simulation or analysis software. What We OfferThe opportunity to develop technology that truly saves lives.Lots of autonomy and influence on the technical direction of the product.A dynamic startup environment with room for experimentation and innovation.Flexible working hours and the possibility of hybrid or remote work.Market-conform compensation and growth opportunities as the company evolves.Interested?Send your CV, portfolio or short motivation to: info@velari.techWould you like more information first?
