We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative Resource Advisor to join the Environmental Regulation business unit. You'll be joining a friendly and supportive culture with people who are passionate about doing great work for our extraordinary region. This full-time, permanent role is based in our modern Masterton office. About the role:As Resource Advisor you will be part of the Rural Activities team with a focus on activities that occur within the rural environment, e.g. taking and using freshwater, agricultural discharges and activities associated with forestry. You will be adept at balancing the interests of a wide range of customers to come up with pragmatic solutions to complex resource management issues.You will support the Council in delivering its responsibilities under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) and other relevant legislation. Your work will include:Providing expert advice and guidance on natural resource managementProcessing resource consent applicationsConducting compliance inspections, auditsResponding to environmental incidents, carrying out associated investigations and enforcement action.Working collaboratively with your team, you'll find pragmatic solutions to complex resource management issues, contributing to Greater Wellington's goals of a strong economy, healthy environment, and a connected, resilient and engaged community.Naturally, you will be a skilled and confident communicator who can build strong and enduring relationships with our customers, stakeholders and partners. Skills and experience required:To succeed in this role, you will have:Practical experience in the RMA and planning disciplinesKnowledge and/or experience of the rural sectorA broad perspective from the breadth and depth of your experience which may include working with councils, central government, private practice/consulting firms, community, iwi or volunteer groups.A solutions-focused and collaborative working style, with experience mentoring and sharing your ideas and expertise with others.Excellent interpersonal, engagement and relationship management skillsResilience, flexibility, and an ability to work with ambiguity.The ability to manage multiple projects efficiently, to prioritise competing commitments and proactively manage customer expectations.An analytical mind to critically review reports, plans and other technical documents, and to suggest improvements to our practices.The ability to remain focussed on outcomes amid the RMA process.An understanding of how to influence behaviour change.A proven track record of successfully delivering to customers.
