Position InformationThe NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.About The SchoolMorisset Public School is situated on the south-west side of Lake Macquarie on Awabakal land. Morisset Public School is a proud member of the Western Shores Learning Alliance (WSLA), in partnership with four other primary schools and Morisset High School. Morisset Public School has a total of 159 enrolments within a community of increasing diversity. 28% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 15% originate from language backgrounds other than English. In 2026 Morisset Public School will have a multi-categorical support class. The wellbeing and engagement of our students is a priority with a continued focus on high quality explicit teaching to achieve improvement in literacy and numeracy.About The RoleSchool Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. This School Learning Support Officer position will provide specific support for students in our newly formed 2026 Multi-categorical (MC) class.Essential RequirementsWorking with Children Check ClearanceCompletion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).Selection CriteriaDemonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.Effective communication skills.ConditionsThis position is designated for the employment of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
