Our real estate investment and development firm client is seeking a Senior Accountant who will utilize professional knowledge of accounting principles and systems to carry out assignments related to the proper accounting of real estate portfolio transactions. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for ensuring monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines are met. The ideal candidate will have real estate accounting experience in GAAP, financial reporting, construction, and related loan compliance experience for office, retail, multifamily, self-storage, hotel, and development assets. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSHandle the month-end close process, ensuring a timely closePrepare bank reconciliationsPrepare journal entries and ensure accuracyPrepare monthly construction draws for development and submission to partners and lenders for paymentAssist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statementsPrepare CAM reconciliations in connection with tenant move-in/out, annual budgets, and annual reconciliationsSupport the budgeting process for properties and corporate entitiesHandle accounting functions related to the corporate and trust entitiesWork with CPA firms to provide the needed data related to audits, tax, reviews, agreed-upon procedures, etc.Prepare the fixed assets capitalization schedulePrepare quarterly loan compliance and respond to lender inquiriesAssist in the preparation of the quarterly board reportPrepare variance analysisReview construction in progress and monitor the completion of the construction projectsPrepare gross potential report monthly for multifamilyPrepare partner monthly, quarterly, or annual financial reportingReview third-party reporting and synchronize it to the accounting systemHandle ad-hoc assignments as required QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in Accounting5 years’ experience in the real estate industryExperience being part of the budgeting teamStrong understanding/experience of the CAM reconciliation processWorking knowledge of property management/accounting software (preferably Yardi and Sage), Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both oral and written, with owners, tenants, and coworkersAbility to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships, professional phone mannerMature and self-motivated team player with good conflict-resolution skillsCommitted to personal growth and integrity aligned with objectivesGood organizational/multi-task skills and the ability to allocate one’s time effectively and manage tight deadlinesAbility to work under pressure and achieve quality resultsAbility to handle multiple demands and competing priorities, and adapt to new ideas and changesResults-oriented, detail-oriented, and accurateAbility to resolve problems using facts and sound reasoning, and to achieve goals using a strategic approachProven innovation with a willingness to manage and adapt to change
