Senior Backend Engineer / Backend Lead (Laravel/PHP)

This includes:🔧 Backend & API OwnershipBuild and maintain our Laravel backend, REST APIs, internal tools, and integrations.Improve existing systems — not rewrite everything for fun.Ship features reliably with minimal bugs and clean rollout plans.🤝 Cross-Team CollaborationWork closely with our React dashboard team and Flutter mobile team.You don’t need to code frontend/mobile, but you must understand how your APIs impact them.🧭 Technical LeadershipGuide and support other backend developers.Help plan releases, deployments, and architecture decisions.Keep the system stable, scalable, and predictable.🔍 Problem Solving & ImprovementsDiagnose performance issues, caching problems, query slowdowns.Suggest solutions and trade-offs, not just point out problems.Own the full lifecycle: from proposal → implementation → testing → deployment → monitoring.RequirementsMust-Haves6+ years of solid experience in Laravel/PHP and RESTful API development.Strong knowledge of MySQL, migrations, query optimization, and indexing.Experience with AWS, Docker, CI/CD (GitHub Actions), and queues.Ability to debug production issues quickly and calmly.Comfortable reviewing PRs, mentoring, and leading technical decisions.Strong fundamentals: architecture, caching, transactions, concurrency, data flow.Nice-to-HaveExperience in high-traffic or startup environments.Exposure to monitoring tools (Datadog, Grafana, Sentry).Familiarity with React and Flutter workflows (not coding, just understanding).What This Role Is NOT❌ not a position for junior devs looking to learn❌ not a bureaucracy-driven job❌ not endless rewriting of systems❌ not research-heavy or academicThis is a hands-on, practical engineering role with real impact.About DeemplesDeemples helps golfers across Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand find golf buddies and book games.
