This is a senior role, combining technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, team oversight, and strategic input.As Senior Environmental Scientist, you will:Proven experience with leading projects which at their core require environmental and social impact assessments to be produced to international development standards. Worked in multiple regions across the South Pacific, ideally on IDA projects funded by multilateral, bilateral, and/or NGOs.Hold a registered Principal EIA consultant status with the Department of Environment (Fiji), or you meet the minimum requirements to be registered as a Principal EIA Consultant. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid level scientists; review and ensure quality of technical work (fieldwork, sampling, data analysis, modelling, etc.).Integrate environmental and social considerations into project planning and delivery, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects in the Pacific. Support or complete gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) assessments. Shape and drive climate adaptation strategies, especially nature based solutions and ecosystem-based approaches to build resilience.Lead stakeholder engagement: government agencies, local communities (including traditional landowners), non-government actors, partners, ensuring culturally appropriate and gender/social inclusion sensitive processes.Manage project budgets, timelines, field logistics; ensure fieldwork is safely conducted and meets quality and regulatory standards.Monitor and evaluate environmental programs, including long term monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem health, climate risk outcomes, reporting on impacts.Keep up to date with environmental legislation, regional governance frameworks, emerging science (e.g. climate, biodiversity, ecosystem services), and international standards.About YouA relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Ecology or similar). A postgraduate degree (MSc or higher) is highly desirable.At least 10 years of professional work experience in environmental science, with a least three years of experience in the private sector. Significant experience delivering ESIAs (or equivalent environmental impact / risk assessments) in Pacific.Demonstrated skills in environmental impact assessments, climate change/ adaptation analysis, ecosystem management, nature based solutions, and scientific sampling and monitoring methodologies.Strong knowledge of environmental, social, cultural, and regulatory contexts in Fiji / Pacific Islands, including environmental governance, traditional land tenure, gender/social inclusion.Excellent communication skills: able to translate technical findings to diverse audiences (community, government, partners), present results clearly, write high quality technical and policy reports.Strong technical leadership skills: mentorship, team building, prioritization, decision making under uncertainty, able to balance multiple projects/tasks and manage budgets.Ability to identify opportunities (business development, funding, partnerships) is a plus.Interested?
