Job Description

As the first internal legal counsel in Mexico for Richemont, the Senior Legal Counsel will have the role of primarily managing all legal matters related to our operations, and distribution and retail business, in Mexico, with a focus on contract negotiation, litigation management and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Subject matter expert covering Mexican Market, leading complex legal topics, reducing risk exposures, ensuring proper compliance in a rapidly changing business environment and providing strategic legal counsel and leadership within the Mexico organization.Key ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITY 1: LEGAL STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT; LEGAL ADVICE AND SUPPORT; LEGAL RESEARCH & EXTERNAL COUNSEL MANAGEMENT. Develop a strategy of how to implement the global and Americas legal vision to Mexico, as a key business partner of the Mexico General Manager and his executive team; develop and execute a plan for legal excellence in the region. Provide strategic legal advice and guidance to management and business units on a wide range of legal and compliance issues affecting the company’s operations in Mexico, including but not limited to, employment, data privacy, financial and product compliance and competition matters. Collaborate effectively with global and regional legal teams and other departments to achieve company goals and initiatives. Advise on corporate governance matters and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Conduct legal research and analysis on a variety of legal topics and provide clear, practical recommendations to stakeholders. Manage and supervise external legal counsel and ensure that legal services are provided in a cost-effective and efficient manner.Key Responsibility 2CONTRACT NEGOTIATION AND MANAGEMENT Draft, review, follow-up, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including but not limited to, supplier and vendor agreements, partnership and distribution agreements, service agreements, and real estate agreements. Partner with our Americas legal team for template alignments and group guidelines, while respecting local regulations. Work with stakeholders to ensure delivery of successful contract completion on time and within budget. Key Responsibility 3LITIGATION MANAGEMENT; COMPLIANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT; REGULATORY MONITORING Manage all aspects of litigation and dispute resolution, including by developing legal strategies and directing external counsel in legal proceedings. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including those related to anti-corruption, data privacy and consumer protection. Partner with the Americas Legal and Compliance teams to develop and implement regional compliance policies, procedures and trainings. Monitor changes in local laws and regulations that impact the company and proactively advise on potential legal risks or opportunities. Partner with executive team and Maison’s on crisis management matters when necessary. JOB PROFILE Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited and leading recognized law school; strong academic credentials.Required ExperienceAdmission to the Mexican bar More than 10 years of legal experience (preferably gained through a combination of law firm and in-house roles of increasing visibility and responsibility) Broad legal base of knowledge (including experience in commercial transactions, real estate, employment, litigation, wholesale and retail operations, corporate governance, privacy, data security, digital, ecommerce, risk management) Experience in luxury goods, retail or consumer products industries highly preferred Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Significant and proven work experience in an international company Technical Skills / AbilitiesProficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Continuous improvement mindset with a thirst for learning and finding new and innovative solutions to complex issues. Detail oriented, excellent analytical skills, and demonstrated ability to perform analyses and identify solutions to resolve specific commercial and ER needs.
