Formed in 2009, OCL started their first project and began building around a business model focused on “People and Doing the Job Right”.The RoleWe are currently recruiting a Senior Mechanical Estimator to assist in coordinating bids in our estimating team. This role will support our various divisions and business units, with a focus on mechanical projects. This position is based out of the head office in Edmonton, AB and reports into the Estimating Manager.The Senior Mechanical Estimator will assist, support and coordinate the estimating team with a variety of project pursuits in midstream and industrial construction scopes. As a key member, we are looking for an ambitious individual who is able to quickly build rapport with his/her team, senior management, clients, vendors, and project staff. The ideal candidate is an exceptional technical writer with at least five years of progressive estimating experience and a proven ability to lead mechanical bids from start to finish. Company paid professional membership fees and/or dues e.g. P.EngKey Duties/ResponsibilitiesEstimating, proposal coordination, and closing of assigned RFP’sCoordination of vendor and sub-contractor requirementsWork with operations on labour & material take-offs for each disciplineTake the lead in mechanical and piping estimates, helping to coordinate the efforts for the bidBid & gate reviews with the discipline leads and operations personnelDevelop relationships with OCL’s key vendors and subcontractorsAssist the project teams in reviewing change orders as requiredPresent cost estimates and other reports to operations and project managementOversee and coordinate proposal development, engaging multiple disciplinesProvide strong technical writing support to the estimating and project management teams and work closely with subject matter experts, identifying benefits and value-add content for proposal submissionsConducts detailed analysis of the contract documents and specifications to determine overall project requirements identifying any associated risk factors, including the monitoring of published addendums that may alter the original scope of the projectCompletes final cost estimate of a project through the use of Ineight software, incorporating all labor, equipment, and material data, pricing documentation, overhead and profit marginsProvide qualifications and written assumptions that can be discussed with the engineers or the owner while reviewing estimatesAble to facilitate the development of conceptual estimates and conventional bid submissions with or without complete drawings and specificationsIn conjunction with the Project/OPS Manager reviews special proposal requirements and makes recommendationsSolicits pricing from subcontractors and suppliers for labor, equipment and materials, in order to ascertain the lowest price while meeting OCL’s safety and quality standardsCompletes final bid submission review and oversees the final tender document submission to the client on behalf of OCLAnalyzes and determines productivitiesOrganizes bid closing assignments to meet submission deadlines on closing dayIn the absence of the Estimating Manager, coordinate and lead the activities of the teamEducational/Work Experience RequirementsUndergraduate degree in engineering or post-secondary diploma in a construction related discipline or quantity surveyingMinimum of 5+ years of mechanical & piping estimating experience in the construction industry. Preference will be given to those who have previous estimating experience in industrial constructionExtensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing proceduresProven ability to handle multiple projects at one time managing stress and tight deadlines effectivelyAbility to recognize risks and opportunities, analyzing and determining the associated costs, impacts to schedule and creating mitigation plans as requiredAbility to use industry relationships with our trade partners to create a competitive advantageExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExperience with estimating software such as InEight is considered an assetAbility to review and understand Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project schedulesSound knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft and Google Office Suite, Google Sheets/Docs/Drive and BlueBeamOCL Group Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.Powered by JazzHRRZjD725N9G
