For the future of Queensland and the world.As a Senior Scientist (Aquaculture) you will play a lead role in the Integrated Nutrient Management Systems for land-based aquaculture project. This 6-year, 3-phase project will work with industry stakeholders to 1) identify existing, novel and potential nutrient management technologies for land-based aquaculture, 2) evaluate the cost effectiveness in situ of the most likely technologies, and 3) develop and evaluate integrated whole-of-farm nutrient management strategies.The project is supported by funding contributions from the Queensland Government, Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, Australian Prawn Farmers Association and the Australian Barramundi Farmers Association.Your Key Tasks Will IncludeProvide expertise and leadership on practical and scientific aspects of aquaculture farm nutrient management to achieve RD&E project outcomes.Manage a technical working group on aquaculture nutrient management tasked with providing critical input towards establishing project research directions, evaluation of research progress and steering project direction.Develop a priority list of key parameters to measure, monitoring techniques and the most likely nutrient management strategies. This will require incorporating the technical working group and workshop outputs .Lead research and evaluation of the effectiveness of aquaculture pond nutrient management technologies .Establish demonstration sites to evaluate innovative cost-effective waste treatment strategies.Produce reports on research progress and results in written and verbal presentation formats.Develop integrated whole-of-farm system nutrient management systems and waste management strategies for evaluation at commercial scale.Assess the performance of whole-of-farm system nutrient management strategies and refine to maximise outcomes to industryExtend project results and farm water management recommendations to stakeholders.You may directly supervise casual technicians and also guide technicians from industry partners.
