We’re looking for a Senior Trade Waste Officer to join our team and help shape the future of trade waste services across the participating Councils. Reporting to the Trade Waste Team Leader, you’ll play a key role in guiding and mentoring our Trade Waste Officers, ensuring we deliver top-notch service and maintain strong relationships with our communities.This is more than just a technical role – it’s about leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving. You’ll bring your expertise to support the team, tackle challenges, and keep things running smoothly. If you’re passionate about environmental compliance, enjoy working with people, and want a role where your ideas and experience really count, we’d love to hear from you.Key Responsibilities IncludeSupport the team leader to work with participating Councils’ compliance teams to develop processes and ensure ongoing adherence to compliance reporting and follow-up actions.Support the team leader to ensure the Trade Waste team are appropriately trained and approved to carry out the functions and exercise the powers of an ‘Enforcement Officer’ (Authorised Officer) as provided for under the Local Government Act 2002 and Resource Management Act 1991.Actively foster and maintain key stakeholder and customer relationships across the participating Councils and with external parties.Mentor the trade waste team, utilizing significant technical expertise in trade waste management to ensure best practices.Responding to complex customer enquiries and providing exceptional customer service.Taking appropriate actions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements outlined in Council Bylaws, policies and management plans.Ensure recovery of all fees and charges associated with the delivery of Trade Waste services.QualificationsOo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experienceGood scientific knowledge of wastewater processes.At least 7 years’ experience in complex trade waste managementVaried experience in the implementation of consents, plans, policies and Bylaws.Proficient in Office management systems.Current and clean ‘Full’ driver’s license.Strong analytical and written skills.Maintains confidentiality and exercises judgement and discretion.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Effective team player.Experience Mentoring and building technical expertise in teamsCan do attitude.High attention to detail.Proactive self-starter.Strong time managementTertiary qualification preferably in Science or EngineeringLocal Authority experienceIndustrial environment experienceWorking knowledge with the Resource Management Act (RMA)Additional InformationHe aha te wariu o te utu kaimahi? | What’s the salary?
