We reward them with challenging work, opportunities to learn and grow, competitive compensation, a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive work environment where safety is our top priority.SummaryThis position is responsible for the supervision of the entire operation and personnel of a shift in the packaging area which involves Safety, Food Safety, Quality, Environmental, and Operations.This position is a salaried rotating 12 hour shift position.FunctionsPrimary Responsibilities/Essential FunctionSafetyLead in demonstrating clear US Sugar Savannah Refinery safety and GMP standards, assure employees understand and follow the policies, and work safelyResponsible for general housekeeping of the area in support of the company’s Combustible Dust Policy.Responsible for coordinating medical attention, in the event of an accident, securing the area for food safety purposes, and filing all accident reports as directed.Assure employees complete all safety and other training as required.Quality and Food SafetyResponsible for auditing operators’ documents to verify compliance with all required quality checks for the assigned machine. Responsible for notifying the Quality Control department in the event of a food safety/quality issue; locating the subject product, isolating it, and then initiating a hold of that product.Responsible for final review and approval (along with Packaging Manager) of all production and quality documentation.Understands and observes Plant Safety work procedures and rules, Environmental Practices and GMP guidelines.Environmental Assurance ComplianceMonitor and manage all aspects of the packaging operation that may have an impact on environmental assurance and compliance.ProductivityEnsure employees get trained and qualified in specific roles that maintain high performance operation of each packaging line.Develop and utilize the operator–mechanic role through the proper training and day-to-day coaching.Support the use of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS – Maximo) by proper implementation of the work order process.Support the use of Loss Elimination Tracking by your team to properly document reason for down time.Assure there is a process for prioritizing and scheduling work to meet production schedules. Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.Analyzes and resolves work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.Assures accurate time and production records.Analyzes machine malfunctions and contacts the appropriate maintenance personnel for assistance when necessary.Ensures proper handling of all rework/reprocess sugar in the packaging area.Oversee all daily operations and keep production at full capacity within the boundaries of efficient costs.Manages and schedules all US Sugar Savannah Refinery employee production hours necessary for production in order to balance production demands at minimal cost.Responsible for understanding bulk/silo operations (sugar transfer operations).Additional ResponsibilitiesEnsures compliance with all company policies.Responsible for communicating the production plan to operators on each shift. Promptly reports all incidents to management and conducts incident investigation as soon as practicable; no later than 24 hours from time of incident.QualificationsEducation/Professional Certifications/LicensesThe Following Are The Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities and accomplishments preferred.Ability to analyze data and change work behavior preferred.ExperienceThe following are the basic qualifications:Must have a minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment.The Following Are The Preferred Qualifications: Five or more years of packaging experience in food industryKnowledge/Skills/Abilities (including Any Physical Demands)The following are the basic qualifications:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Equipment UsedComputer and automated packaging equipment.Working ConditionsWhile performing the duties of this job, the associate is rarely exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.Employee SupervisionDirectly supervises employees in the Packaging Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; communicating company information; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Decision Making/AccountabilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
