About Bp/teambp’s Technology organization is the central organization for all software and platform development. We build all the technology that powers bp’s businesses, from upstream energy production to downstream energy delivery to our customers. We have a variety of teams depending on your areas of interest, including infrastructure and backend services through to customer-facing web and native applications. We encourage our teams to adapt quickly by using native AWS and Azure services, including serverless, and enable them to pick the best technology for a given problem. This is meant to empower our software and platform engineers while allowing them to learn and develop themselves.ResponsibilitiesAs a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for building, maintaining and fixing the software and services that powers our technology solutions. In this role, you will work with a team of engineers and collaborators to ensure that the software is highly available, scalable, and secure. You will also be responsible for automating routine tasks, improving the software performance, and providing technical support to other teams.Design, build, and maintain the technology software features and infrastructureEnsure the software and services are highly available, scalable, and secureContinuously monitor and evaluate the platform to identify potential issues and make recommendations for improvementsIntegrate systems with external and internal services and APIs, facilitating data exchange and interoperability.Collaborate with other platform and services teams to identify and resolve complex problemsWrite clean, secure, maintainable, and well-tested code adhering to industry standards. Design test automation using unit and integration testing frameworks.Participate actively in code reviews and chip in to the development of guidelines.Mentor junior engineers and chip in to the development of the engineering teamWrite software design and operational support documentationTechnical Skills We Need From YouBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems or equivalent work experienceCapable in the ability to adapt to new technologies and processes, and be able to work independently and as part of a teamCapable in problem-solving, with the ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes and develop creative and effective solutionsExcellent communication skills and ability to communicate with your peers through to senior leaders. You should be able to engage and influence others to collect requirements, describe what you’re doing, work through problems, and find productive solutionsSelf-starter, able to handle ambiguity, navigate uncertainty, identify risks, and find the right people and tools to get the job doneSoftware SkillsCapable in at least one programming language (C#, Java, Python, or TypeScript) developing cross-platform solutions.Design services, platforms, and APIs focusing on RESTful and GraphQL for seamless communication with the front end.Capable in writing secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code with minimal defects2+ years of non-internship professional software development experienceCapable in the use of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and systems design.Capable in software engineering practices & guidelines for full software creation process, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operationsCapable in building complex software systems end-to-end which have been optimally delivered and operated in production. You should understand security and privacy guidelines as well as how to properly monitor, log, and alarm production systemsInfrastructure SkillsCapable in building and scaling infrastructure services using Amazon Web Services or Microsoft AzureCapable in the understanding of using core cloud application infrastructure services including identity platforms, networking, storage, databases, containers, and serverlessCapable in fixing large-scale distributed systems2+ years of experience in application development and support environments with more than one technology and multiple design techniques.
