You'll take ownership of small to medium-sized projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior engineers. This role provides opportunities for technical growth and increasing influence within the engineering teamThis role is suited to someone who has already gained some hands-on experience delivering software, whether through a prior role, an internship, or strong project work, and is now ready to take more ownership within a supportive and high performing environment.You will work remotely from Vietnam as part of a cross-functional Scrum team, collaborating closely with engineers, QAs, designers, and product managers in Leicester. We value clean and maintainable code, effective communication, and a mindset of continuous improvement. You will also have opportunities to contribute to global projects and take part in engineering initiatives that span multiple teams.Our stack includes PHP (Laravel) on the backend and modern frontend frameworks like React, Vue.js, and AngularJS. You do not need to know everything on day one, but you should be comfortable working across both backend and frontend codebases and be open to learning new technologies as needed. At this level, we are looking for someone who can take ownership of small to medium features, participate in planning discussions, and contribute thoughtfully in code reviews.We want engineers who write clear, maintainable code, ask good questions, and care about doing things well rather than just getting things done. You will receive guidance and mentorship from senior engineers while being encouraged to work independently and show initiative.This is a fully remote role based in Vietnam. You will report to the Software Engineering Team Lead in Leicester and work closely with teammates across both Vietnam and the UK.What You’ll Do:Design, develop, test, and maintain complex features for cloud-based SaaS applications using specified technologiesDebug and resolve complex software defects and performance issuesLead the development of small to medium-sized features, taking ownership from design to deploymentWrite clean, well-documented, and testable codeProactively identify and address performance bottlenecks and scalability issuesParticipate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other engineersContribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and toolingMentor and guide junior engineersCollaborate with product managers to define and refine requirementsTroubleshoot and resolve production issuesWhat You’ll Bring:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent and 2-4 years of relevant experience is required. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is requiredExperience with e-commerce and with specific experience of Shopify a plus!Strong expertise in programming principles (e.g. OOP, functional) and design patterns (e.g. DRY, SOLID, IoC)Experience with backend languages such as PHP and other web-based object-oriented languages, using frameworks like Laravel (preferred)Proficient in front-end technologies including AngularJS, React, and Vue.jsExperience with database design, optimization, and ORM frameworksExperience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment toolsStrong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience leading small development teamsExperience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including services like serverless functions, containers, and databasesExperience with performance monitoring and optimization toolsProficiency in prompt engineering and experience in using AI coding assistant tool in day-to-day workFluent English communication skills are requiredWhy clearer.io?We believe in making things simpler - for our customers, and for each other.
