Position SummaryThe Sorter oversees the daily operations of the sorting line, ensuring that recyclable materials are accurately identified and separated according to type. The Sorter will primarily sort paper, plastic, and cardboard while maintaining safety and quality standards within the facility at all times. This role will need to work a 9:30am-6:00pm schedule Monday through Friday.Essential Job Duties And ResponsibilitiesAccurately identify and differentiate various materials brought into the facilityManually sort materials according to type (e.g., paper, plastics, cardboard) to ensure proper recycling streamsReview materials for foreign or non-recyclable items and remove them to prevent contaminationTake boxes of materials and dump them into designated bins for processingAssist in the movement and organization of materials within the facility as neededEnsure a safe work area by utilizing appropriate safety equipment, including safety vests, gloves, protective eyewear, and steel-toe bootsAdhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a hazard-free work environmentCommunicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations and address any issues promptlyReport any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisorsPerform other tasks or duties as assigned, which may include but are not limited to cleaning and maintaining work areas, palletizing materials for shipment or storage, loading and unloading trucks, assisting drivers as a helper during collection routes.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred but not requiredFlexible work schedule between the hours of 9:30am-6:00pmPrevious experience in recycling, waste management, or a similar labor-intensive role is advantageousAbility to distinguish between various recyclable materialsStrong attention to detail and commitment to qualityPhysical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and stand for extended periodsEffective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a teamWork Environment and Physical DemandsWork is performed in an outdoor facility with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and dustMay require prolonged periods of standingRequires standing, bending, and lifting materials up to 40 pounds regularlyAbility to perform repetitive motions and manual labor tasksVisual acuity to identify and sort materials accuratelyUse of PPE as required by facility guidelines and adherence to safety practices are required
