California, here we come!The California Post is seeking a General Assignment Sports Reporter to cover anything and everything in the world of sports across California and beyond. From breaking news around teams, leagues, and athletes to viral cultural moments, this reporter will ensure the Post has the crucial angles covered while also working to break our own stories.This role is pivotal in keeping our readers informed, engaged, and up to date on the fast-moving world of sports — all in the Post’s signature, snappy voice.Application Instructions: Applicants should submit a cover letter or a short video cover letter. We do not accept direct video file uploads.Responsibilities:Play a major role in daily coverage of the varied topics and teams, including breaking news, game coverage, features, and analysisBuild and maintain strong sources inside the team, league, and broader sports communityFile timely stories with accuracy, flair, and authority that reflect The Post’s voicePitch and deliver viral or buzzworthy stories that go beyond game results to highlight personalities, culture, and storylines fans are talking aboutFile real-time updates during games, breaking news, and live eventsCollaborate with editors and colleagues to deliver innovative, engaging coverage across platformsReport sports stories that will attract new readers and help expand The Post’s digital presenceWrite unique stories in a timely fashion to keep readers informed and entertainedExpertly cover the Rams on Sunday, the Lakers on Tuesday, the Dodgers on Wednesday and work the rewrite desk on Thursdays.Use social media and digital tools for news gathering and discoveryWork cooperatively as a team member under tight deadlinesRequirements:1-2+ years’ experience in an online news environmentAbility to leverage multimedia content to enhance stories and user experienceJournalism chops; understanding what to promote, what is breaking newsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlinesFamiliarity with content management systems, photo editing software, SEO and web analytics tools a plusWillingness to work overtime, weekday nights and on weekendsA strong social media presence or following is preferredOn-camera experience strongly preferred — reporters should be comfortable discussing and presenting stories on video, podcasts, and other formats to help extend our journalism across digital and social platformsNote: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week.At The New York Post we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
