Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Underwriter as part of our Bermuda Healthcare team.Our Healthcare Underwriting team offers solutions for healthcare facilities writing Healthcare Professional Liability, General Liability, and other ancillary lines for Umbrella, and Excess risks. We work through a network of brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition.Location: This position will be based in our Bermuda office.Our Business, Your Impact, Our OpportunityWhat you’ll be doing:The Senior Underwriter will have a thorough understanding of Sompo’s strategies and appetites and will use internal and external data to make appropriate individual and portfolio risk decisions. This position is responsible for the profitable growth of an assigned book of business, utilizing underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations. The open position reports to the AVP of Healthcare Underwriting.  Essential Duties And Responsibilities  Reviews applications and financial requirements to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with Sompo underwriting guidelines and standards  Understands pricing components and rating methodology; prices risk based on financial and competitive analysis  Demonstrates technical underwriting skills through strategic, thorough account reviews and file documentation  Manages assigned portfolio to achieve gross written premium, profitability, rate, retention, product mix, new business and portfolio management goals  Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of  products and appetite while clearly communicating Sompo position   Develops and implements distributor specific plans, monitors performance, and adjusts plan to ensure a substantial pipeline for future profitable growth  Drives effective relationship management and customer activities to build trust, facilitate negotiation and secure commitment with the customer  Proactively identifies cross-sell opportunities and partners with other underwriters to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions for the customer   What You’ll BringUndergraduate or advanced degree preferred; At least 6 years of Healthcare underwriting experience; knowledge of Healthcare products and marketing techniques; Established relationships producers; Strong negotiation skills; Excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills; Ability to plan strategically and prioritize workload to meet production and management objectives.
