You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of biometric authentication technology, from face matching and liveness detection to seamless user experience across web, iOS, and Android platforms. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking to drive the evolution of our biometrics platform in an industry rapidly advancing toward quantum computing and zero-knowledge proof paradigms.ResponsibilitiesLead the full-stack architectural design and implementation of biometric identity verification solutions spanning React web applications, Swift iOS SDKs, and Kotlin Android SDKsDrive technical strategy and roadmap development for the Biometrics platform, ensuring alignment with emerging industry standards including NIST FRTE and FIDO Alliance requirementsDesign and optimize Python-based AI/ML backend systems for biometric processing, with integration points across Ruby and Elixir microservicesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to implement privacy-compliant solutions adhering to BIPA, CUBI, ETSI, and GDPR regulationsMentor and guide engineering teams through complex technical challenges, code reviews, and architectural decisionsPartner with product management and engineering leadership to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutionsChampion software security best practices including secure SDLC, cryptographic implementation, and code obfuscation techniquesLead the evaluation and integration of emerging technologies such as quantum-resistant cryptography and zero-knowledge proof systemsDrive continuous improvement of development processes, deployment pipelines, and system reliabilityRepresent Entrust's technical capabilities in industry forums and contribute to open-source biometric standardsYour Future Short-term And Major ProjectsGrow adoption of Biometrics products, from face matching, liveness detection and authentication, all the way to how these are integrated from user experience to mobile development and backend processingWork with Director of Engineering and your Staff Engineer+ peers to define path forward for how Biometrics technology will evolve in the context of our team, but also in the context of the Entrust ecosystem and, ultimately, our position in the Digital Identity industry landscapeArchitect and implement quantum-resistant cryptographic protocols for biometric data protection and zero-knowledge proof integrationContribute to design of unified SDK architecture that provides consistent developer experience across React, Swift, and Kotlin platformsDrive the development of real-time biometric liveness detection capabilities with sub-second response times and 99.9% accuracyBasic Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field8+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on full-stack engineering4+ years of experience in a senior or staff-level engineering role with demonstrated technical leadershipExpert-level proficiency in at least two of the following: React/TypeScript, Swift/iOS development, Kotlin/Android development, PythonStrong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized deployment using Docker and KubernetesProven track record of designing and implementing scalable distributed systems and microservices architecturesGeneral understanding of modern AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) and model deployment in productionDeep understanding of software security principles, cryptography, and privacy-by-design methodologiesExperience with agile development methodologies and modern DevOps practicesStrong communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiencesPreferred Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceExperience in multi-threaded applications and high-performance computing environmentsExperience with software security concepts (secure SDLC, cryptography, obfuscation, code signing, and security testing)Experience with SaaS development and deployment at scaleExperience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform or similarExperience with monitoring tools like Sentry, NewRelic, Datadog, Splunk or similarExperience in SSO, SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, and modern identity federation protocolsExperience developing a commercial/external software product with external API consumersPrevious work in biometrics, computer vision, or identity verification domainsKnowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, BIPA, CCPA) and their technical implementation requirementsExperience with Ruby on Rails, Elixir/Phoenix, or other backend frameworks beyond PythonUnderstanding of zero-knowledge proof systems and their practical applicationsExperience with mobile app security, including certificate pinning, runtime application self-protection (RASP), and anti-tampering techniquesMasters or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related fieldFamiliarity with quantum computing concepts and post-quantum cryptographyLocation:This is a hybrid/remote role based in Lisbon, Portugal or London, UK. If you live within one hour of either office, you’ll be expected to work hybrid.
