Job Description

We're seeking a compassionate community connector to work with students experiencing chronic absence and their whānau. You'll build relationships, understand barriers to attendance, and create practical solutions that help young people re-engage with school.This is hands-on work-home visits, one-to-one support, connecting families with resources, and collaborating with pastoral care teams to make a real difference.Part time - 16 hours per week, term-time only, Fixed-term for 2 school yearsStart date - 21 January 2026Key ResponsibilitiesWork directly with students and whānau to develop individualised attendance action plansConduct home visits and facilitate restorative conversationsArrange practical support (transport, uniforms, kai, devices)Use data systems (KAMAR, Power BI) to track patterns and progressConnect families with external agencies and support servicesMaintain case notes and report on outcomesAbout YouExcellent communicator with genuine empathy and strong professional boundariesWell-organised with ability to work independentlyCulturally sensitive and respectful of diverse communitiesFlexible, calm under pressure, and solutions-focusedCommitted to confidentialityValid driver's license (home visits required)Desirable - Experience in social work, youth work, or community engagement; knowledge of local support services.If you meet these requirements and are wanting to make a positive difference for rangatahi in the Wakatipu Basin, we would love to hear from you.This role is subject to a clean police vet as required under the New Zealand Children's Act.
