Job DescriptionStuff is looking for a bold editorial leader to shape the future of our Life verticals, covering Travel, Property, Personal Finance, and Health & Wellbeing. If you’re passionate about creating journalism with purpose, and thrive on using insight and instinct to guide a talented editorial team, this role is for you. As Life Content Director, you’ll set the tone and strategic direction for one of New Zealand’s most trusted media brands. You’ll decide what Stuff publishes in these key lifestyle areas and just as importantly, what we don’t.

This is a senior leadership role where you’ll commission and deliver journalism that is distinctive, audience-first, data-informed, and aligned with both our editorial principles and commercial goals. From agenda-setting investigations to engaging digital formats across text, video and audio, you’ll ensure our content is bold, useful and built to make an impact. What You'll Be DoingSet and lead the editorial direction for the Life verticals, grounded in audience needs and Stuff’s user-first strategy. Commission content that’s surprising, original and purposeful. Use real-time data and performance metrics to inform content decisions and shape vertical performance.

Lead a team of editors and contributors, mentoring them to produce high-quality, journalism. Represent Stuff as a senior editorial voice in strategic conversations, content partnerships, and external events. Drive innovation across formats and platforms, keeping Stuff ahead of the curve in a fast-evolving media environment. What You'll BringProven leadership experience in editorial strategy and newsroom management. A journalism qualification and deep editorial experience, ideally with exposure to commercial and audience-led environments. A passion for quality journalism and the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

Data fluency and the ability to interpret audience metrics, including the confident use of AI tools to support planning, commissioning, and optimisation. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to motivate high-performing teams. A collaborative mindset and experience working across editorial, commercial, and product teams. A curious, decisive and values-led approach to content creation and team development.
