Job PurposeLead and coordinate sample preparation laboratory activities within HIC – Semifab. Support plant technical teams in developing laboratory capabilities, specifically on sample preparation and equipment related to sample preparation for material characterization and testing.Job Context & Major ChallengesJob Context:As Hindalco downstream business is undertaking a multi-fold expansion, HIC Semifab is also undergoing a significant expansion. As part of the expansion there is a need to enhance the current infrastructure including R&D laboratories. Ambitions of downstream businesses necessitate a bigger and better laboratory infrastructure for carrying out R&D activities that will support both internal and external customers. The incumbent will provide functional lead to all activities that require sample preparation and metallograpy services. The incumbent will also support strategic and CPS projects for development of new products and process. The incumbent will coordinate all activities connected with the characterization labs including the upkeep and maintenance of all the laboratory assets. The major challenges associated with the job include coordinating requirements of different stakeholders and ensuring satisfaction of internal or external customers simultaneouslyKey Result AreasKey Result Areas/AccountabilitiesSupporting ActionsSample Preparation, Characterization and TestingPrepare samples for metallurgical investigations in optical and electron microscopes. Preparation techniques include cutting, mounting, polishing and electrochemical etching.Operate optical and scanning electron microscopes for imaging, elemental analysis and phase identification.Ability to operate uniaxial tensile testing equipment and carry out tests for determining alloy strength and ductility. Coordinate the activities of laboratoriesServe as coordinator for activities within the characterization and testing labs.Coordinate and balance the workload of the team by prioritizing and distributing ATS requests from plant units.Actively maintain database of characterization and testing work carried out within the lab.Provide support to R&D projects. Drive characterization and testing dominant Strategic/Xlab projects using project management structure such stage-gates. Prepare monthly report card on resources and equipment use. Actively seek and implement Improvement opportunities in lab use practices.Lead the lab infrastructure upgrade and maintenance activitiesLead activities on maintenance of the lab equipment.Work with contractors/designers to develop designs for common infrastructure and labsManage the budget and time schedule for such activitiesEnsure regular maintenance activities of the facilitiesLab upgrades and equipment acquisitionSupport lab specific purchase activities for both goods and services including budgeting, CP preparation, item creation, PR, quote, PO and invoicingCoordinate installation of the equipment in the lab with external vendorsKnowledge creation and disseminationDocument projects and prepare project, visit reportsEnsure full documentation of testing and characterization activities for each of the project work is created and archived at appropriate space.
