We inspire.About UsThe British Council Azerbaijan Teaching Centre is going to work with a range of Young Learner courses, from Primary (6- to 10-year-olds) to Secondary (11- to 14-year-olds) and Upper Secondary 15- to 17-year-olds). 2024/25 was our first academic year in Azerbaijan, and we are planning to work with 150 to 200 young learners across the above-mentioned age groups.Role PurposeThe role is responsible for promoting and ensuring high-quality teaching and effective learning of English. It involves creating an engaging and supportive learning environment that enables students to achieve their academic goals while maintaining the standards expected by the organization.In addition, the role contributes to the broader objectives of the British Council by supporting its cultural relations mission. It includes monitoring and guiding students’ overall progress and development, ensuring their learning experience extends beyond the classroom and aligns with the Council’s commitment to educational excellence and global understanding.Role AccountabilitiesThe role supports the British Council’s global English strategy by working closely with teachers to ensure the highest standards of English language teaching and learning. It contributes to enhancing the British Council’s reputation as a world authority in English Language Teaching (ELT) through effective classroom support, professional collaboration, and the sharing of best practices. The position also upholds the organization’s commitment to child protection and health and safety by maintaining a secure and positive learning environment for all learners.A key aspect of the role is to provide active supervision and support for primary-age children (7–10 years) both inside and outside the classroom. This includes assisting with lesson preparation, classroom routines, and learning activities, as well as ensuring discipline and student well-being in line with the Centre’s Behaviour Policy. The role involves helping teachers monitor attendance, maintain student portfolios, and facilitate communication with parents. Additionally, it requires promoting English use during all interactions, encouraging independent learning, and assisting with administrative or resource-related tasks when necessary—all while upholding British Council’s safeguarding and professional standards.Qualifications And ExperienceDegree Certificate with full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR B2), C2, or native Azerbaijani and work experience working with children, especially with young learners (YL) experience aged 7-17Important InformationSalary in hourly rate: Net 7 AZN net per hourAnnual Leave: Annual paid leave is 30 days. Contract Duration: 24 MonthsWork schedule: Teaching is currently face-to-face 7 days a week but Young Learner courses are mostly delivered on Tuesday/ Thursday 16:30-21:00 and Wednesday 16:30- 18:30, Saturday 08.30- 17:00.Local restrictions on employment: Applicants must have the right to work in Azerbaijan.
