Our environment here is part of who we are, and at ORC, we work each day to look after it.The OpportunityWe are looking for a Team Leader - Biosecurity Compliance to provide strategic and operational leadership to our Biosecurity Compliance team. This role is ideally based in Dunedin, with the option of Alexandra, and presents an exciting opportunity to lead a high‑performing team responsible for delivering programmes that give effect to Otago's Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP) and the Biosecurity Act 1993.As Team Leader, you'll guide the team responsible for managing complex biosecurity compliance and enforcement work across Otago. You'll provide expert advice on regulatory practice, coach and mentor compliance officers, and ensure the consistency, integrity, and quality of compliance activities. You'll play a central role in planning and reporting biosecurity operations and contribute to the ongoing development of biosecurity compliance policy, procedures, and strategy across the organisation.This role blends technical expertise, people leadership, and relationship management - ideal for someone who thrives in a team environment and cares deeply about protecting the region's biodiversity and community wellbeing.About YouOur ideal candidate will have:A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental management, conservation, or biosecurity (or equivalent experience).At least 10 years' experience in regulatory compliance, ideally within local or central government, including at least 5 years in leadership.Demonstrated experience applying legislation (such as the Biosecurity Act or Resource Management Act) in practical contexts.Strong coaching, mentoring, and team development skills.Excellent relationship management skills with a collaborative and professional approach.Sound judgement, integrity, and the ability to balance compliance rigour with pragmatic decision-making.An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and their relevance to regional environmental management will be highly valued.What We OfferWe recognise and celebrate diversity within Team ORC, and we are committed to a work environment that supports inclusion and equal opportunity.
