Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Chair of the Institute for the Liberal Arts

The Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS) at the American University of Beirut ─ Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) invites applications for a tenure-track Faculty position, preferably at the rank of Assistant Professor, and as Chair of the Institute for the Liberal Arts (ILA).Reporting to the Dean of FAS, the Chair of ILA will have primary responsibility for the implementation and expansion of ILA activities in accordance with the university mission and policies. The Chair of ILA at AUB Mediterraneo will lead and expand the university’s liberal arts vision, fostering a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, academic excellence, and global engagement. This role integrates student mentorship, faculty support, program development, general education, and research outreach.As AUB Mediterraneo advances its unique approach to liberal arts education, the Chair will help shape how this tradition can best serve the Eastern Mediterranean while also connecting it meaningfully to Europe and the wider world. The Chair is also expected to maintain an active research agenda, contribute to the advancement of scholarship in their field, and support faculty and students in their academic development. Teaching responsibilities will typically include one course per semester, preferably with an emphasis on areas such as cultural history of the Eastern Mediterranean, literature, media and cultural studies, gender studies, or related disciplines.Applicants should hold a PhD in the humanities or social sciences.
