Job DescriptionThe Pacific Area Welfare and Self-Reliance department is seeking to appoint a Family Services Counsellor based in Apia, Samoa. This is a permanent full-time position, reporting to the Area Family Services Manager. The Family Services Counsellor will deliver professional counselling services, consultation and training with church leaders, community resource development and technical expertise relating to Family Services programs, services and resources, and work with the local Welfare and Self-Reliance Managers to support local leaders.
This is a growth-focused position, with the expectation that the successful candidate will actively engage in professional development by utilizing the employer’s education assistance program. If needed, they will be encouraged to enroll in a relevant graduate course in counselling, psychology, or a related field. ResponsibilitiesService to Church Leaders: Provide high-quality consultation and build strong relationships with Church leaders; Identify and engage competent community resource partners. Training and Supervision:
Train, and supervise volunteers, full-time and Church-service missionaries assigned to support FS offerings; Orient to community resource partners on gospel principles relevant to their services; Train Welfare and Self-Reliance Managers (WSRMs) and collaborate on ongoing issues; Maintain personal professional development. Regional Leadership & Strategic Development: Lead FS operations within the region, customizing offerings to meet evolving needs; Collaborate with Area Mental Health Advisor and FS Regional Manager in mission health councils; Set objectives and deliver impactful behavioral health outcomes. Legal Compliance: Ensure all FS programs and services comply with legal, ethical, and Church policy standards. Financial Oversight & Program Evaluation:
Manage FS expenditures and develop strategic budget proposals; Submit annual budgets and financial requests for Area leadership approval; Analyze behavioral health offerings and socio-economic factors;Evaluate community partners and track service quality using KPIs and program data; Report monthly to Area and headquarters leadership . Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or human services field. Alternatively, candidates with equivalent professional experience in a relevant industry are also encouraged to apply.
Ability to communicate effectively with clinically trained mental health professionals Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills Proven ability to deliver high-quality, efficient, and effective work Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Familiarity with databases and presentation tools Proficiency in verbal and written English and Samoan Please note that only candidates who have legal work eligibility to hold employment in Samoa should apply.
