We are looking for a person with experience of clinical blood transfusion, and ideally experience as a Transfusion Practitioner. This is a permanent position which will predominately be based at GUH but will regularly require cross site working.The main responsibility of the role is to work with multi professional teams to promote and support the safe and appropriate use of blood components and provide the highest quality of transfusion care for patients. Education and training are key elements of the role and experience of planning and delivering education is required.The need to be flexible, self-motivated and innovative in your approach as well as the ability to communicate well is essential for this role.You must have knowledge of current transfusion evidence base and patient blood management initiatives and ideally experience of implementing service changes in relation to recommendations.Main duties of the jobTo enhance patient care and outcomes in relation to patient blood management, this is through audit feedback, reviewing patient's interventions and outcomes and engaging staff in education and learning regarding clinical indications for transfusion.To ensure patient safety through evidenced based policy and guidelines for transfusion as well as education on safe and effective transfusion for all trust staffTo assist in the daily operation of electronic blood track, ensuring staff are competent in the use of technology and providing training and user support at the bedside.To plan and deliver training and education using diverse methods, for the range of personnel involved in the transfusion process.To make full use of IT and presentation skills, using a range of media to enhance communication and dissemination of information.Working for our organisationAneurin Bevan University Health Board is a multi-award-winning NHS organisation with a passion for caring. Join us on our journey to pioneer new ways of working and deliver a world-class healthcare service fit for the future.ExperienceEssential criteriaPrevious experience at Band 6 with transfusion expertise.Previous teaching experience.Previous audit experience.Desirable criteriaFamiliarity with hospital clinical transfusion practiceQualification & KnowledgeEssential criteriaQualified Nurse/Midwife with NMC registration or ODP with HCPC registration or degree in Biomedical Sciences & HCPC registration.Evidence of on-going participation in CPD or PREPMasters Degree or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experienceDesirable criteriaA recognised teaching or training qualificationEvidence of successful participation in courses on blood transfusion and related practice.
