Position SummaryThe Intensive Care Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) level is a vital part of the ICU team, responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This role requires advanced competencies, specialized certifications, and a strong ability to function autonomously while collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Major Position ResponsibilitiesThe position characteristics reflect the most important duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job in a fully competent manner. Patient CareCoordinate the interprofessional health care team to deliver safe, efficient, patient-centered, timely and equitable care. Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patient-specific needs.

Develop and implement individualized care plans. Monitor and evaluate patient interventional responses ensuring swift follow-up as needed. Act as patient advocate and protect patient dignity and confidentiality. Evaluates effectiveness of care provided by all health care team members, including oneself, and contribution of systems and environment in progressing patients toward desired outcomes. Provide education to patients and families about medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle modifications. Advocate for evidence-based practices in ICU care. Safety and ComplianceMaintain a safe, clean working environment, adhering to infection control and hospital policies. Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.

Comply with hospital and regulatory standards, including The Joint Commission and OSHA guidelines. Adhere to facility policies to ensure safe care. Identify and report safety concerns; demonstrate willingness to address pervasive systemic issues. DocumentationAccurately document care measures, Interventions, patient progress, and any incidents in the electronic medical record (EMR). Professional Development and LeadershipProvide preceptorship and mentorship to New Graduate Nurses, New Hires, and students, fostering their professional development. Participate in professional development activities, including continuing education, certifications, workshops and quality improvement initiatives. Serve as a resource and advocate for best practices within the ICU department.

Function in the charge nurse & Rapid Response Team (RRT) role as needed. Emergency PreparednessAct decisively in critical situations, such as cardiac arrest, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and composure under pressure. QualificationsQualifications RN Experience/Transitional RN ProgramExperience RequirementExperienced ICU RN Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity Intensive Care Unit, required. Transitional RN Program Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an inpatient Telemetry Unit, Progressive Care Unit or equivalent Step-down Critical Care Unit. Critical Care Curriculum Successful Completion during ProgramDemonstrated proficiency in handling complex cases.

CompetenciesTechnical SkillsProficient in operating advanced critical care related equipment and technology. Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and critical care related pharmacology. Understanding in managing Procedural sterile fields and ensuring adherence to procedural protocols. Critical ThinkingRapid decision-making skills in high-pressure environments. Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to dynamic cases. CommunicationEffective verbal and written communication with the ICU team, patients, and families. EducationBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or may consider Associate Degree, Nursing (ADN) with five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity intensive care unit in lieu of BSN required.

LicensesCurrent California RN License, required. CertificationsCurrent BLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider, Current ACLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification, Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN), or equivalent certification, preferred. Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.
