About DaybookDaybook is a fintech startup redefining how freelancers and small businesses manage their books. Our platform unifies transaction data into one clean, intelligent ledger — automating bookkeeping, GST estimation, and profit/loss insights for Australian freelancers, sole traders, and small businesses. We're building the next generation of accounting tools: fast, visual, and human-centred.Role OverviewAs a UX Research Intern, you will help shape the product direction by uncovering how users understand money, bookkeeping, and administrative workflows. You will work closely with the founder and design team to plan studies, run interviews, analyse patterns, and translate insights into product recommendations. This role offers exposure to research in a fast-moving startup where every insight directly influences the product roadmap.What You’ll DoPlan and run user interviews, usability tests, and concept validation sessionsMap existing bookkeeping workflows across PayPal, Stripe, Wise, and banking toolsSynthesise findings into clear reports and actionable insightsIdentify pain points, mental models, and opportunities for simplificationCollaborate with design and engineering to test UI prototypes and new featuresHelp define user personas, journey maps, and information architectureSupport ongoing discovery work across automation, reconciliation, and export toolsWhat We’re Looking ForStrong interest in UX research, human-centred design, or service designAbility to communicate findings clearly and without jargonFamiliarity with basic research methods: interviews, surveys, task analysis, usability testingCuriosity about fintech, small business workflows, or productivity toolingOrganised, reliable, and comfortable talking to usersNice to have:Experience with Figma, Notion, or MiroCoursework or projects related to UX or behavioural researchPrior exposure to qualitative analysis frameworksWhat You’ll GainMentorship in research planning, synthesis, and product communicationHands-on experience shaping an early-stage productPortfolio-ready case studies based on live user insightsFlexible hours and close collaboration with the founderHow to ApplySend a short note with a portfolio or research sample (optional but preferred) and a few sentences on why Daybook’s mission resonates with you to hello@daybook.moneyThis is an unpaid 3-month internship with the possibility of a paid return offer for a full-time position.
