Our Telecommunications group is currently looking to add Fiber Optic Splicer to our growing team, based in Castor, AB. This position operates on a 10-days-on, 4-days-off rotation. Reporting to the Foreman, you will be responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic cables to ensure seamless connectivity for our clients. You will work on various projects, including new installations, upgrades, and repairs, playing a crucial role in delivering reliable and high-speed internet and communication services.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesPerform fiber optic splicing, including single and mass fusion splicingConduct testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks using OTDR and other testing equipmentInstall, terminate, and test fiber optic cables in various environments, including underground and aerial installationsEnsure all splicing activities are performed to industry standards and client specificationsMaintain accurate records of work performed, including splicing logs, test results, and site documentationCollaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure project timelines and quality standards are metAdhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environmentRequirementsHigh School DiplomaClass 3 driver's license with a clean driver's abstract required; Q-endorsement or Class 1 license is considered an assetPhysically fit with the ability to lift a minimum of 50 poundsProven experience as a Fiber Optic Splicer, with a strong understanding of fiber optic splicing techniques and best practicesProficiency in using splicing and testing equipment, including fusion splicers and OTDRKnowledge of fiber optic cable types, connectors, and installation methodsAbility to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and splicing diagramsStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailExcellent communication and teamwork abilitiesCertification in fiber optic splicing and testing (preferred)About Our BusinessValard Construction LP is Canada's premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
