The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Emergency Management & Coordination Command (EMCC) supports locally led and safe, resilient communities throughout Queensland. The Command is focused on enhancing whole of government capability and delivering state level support to disaster operations based on the requirements of the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements (QDMA).Please refer to role profile for full details.Your Key AccountabilitiesThe core capability requirements for this role are:Lead and manage the 24/7 Watch Desk team to ensure that warnings and other emergency information that affect the Queensland community are coordinated, assessed, and reported, including activation of the SES when required.Oversee the research and analysis of data from the Bureau of Meteorology, Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre and key agencies that could impact on the safety of Queenslanders.Provide strategic advice to management regarding staffing needs and the activation of the State Disaster Coordination Centre (SDCC).Manage and monitor information and communication technology systems and software applications and maintain accurate records.Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and networks across all agencies within the disaster management environment.Manage a portfolio of projects focusing on the long-term preparation of the state capability for disaster management and coordination during emergency events.Undertake research, analysis, and preparation of policy advice in relation to disaster management service delivery and responses for ministerial correspondence, briefing notes and reports.Foster teamwork and assist in the ongoing achievement and development of watch desk staff.OtherRole Requirements:Officers will work a rotational shift roster including night and weekend shifts over a 28-day period. The ordinary hours of duty, inclusive of mealtimes, will not exceed 12 hours and 5 minutes per day.Applicable penalty rates apply. Applications to remain current for 12 months.
