Working with local communities and organizations, that knowledge is applied to address species, habitat and ecosystem management issues critical to improving the quality of life of poor rural people whose livelihoods depend on the direct utilization of natural resources. Position SummaryThe main purpose of this role is to support the Regional Controller to ensure the financial integrity of the Regions mentioned above and to be the lead on financial compliance, policy and procedures for WCS.
The role assists the Regional Controller in the audit and compliance function, as well as building the capacity of the country finance teams by providing appropriate financial management training where necessary. S/he also provides financial assessment and reports for management in the region and headquarters. Position ResponsibilitiesFinance: Responsible for key financial management accountabilities in the region. For example: Review of country office balance sheet activity, e. g. bank account reconciliations, grants receivables, severance payable, field advances, etc.
Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly Review with country office the timely collection and reporting of receivables, grant, project and travel activities. Serve as the back up to a country program when there is a vacancy at the country offices lead financial position. Review and advise on cash flow management. Review the country offices finance and administration structure with respect to size, competence, and internal controls.
Assist in the creation of financial statements for subsidiaries, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements Support the calculation and tracking of payments, interest and amortization for loans Support in the review of incoming payments and outgoing payments in regard to Carbon Credit Sales Audit And Compliance Provide support for external audits Assist the Regional Controller to perform regular operational reviews of each office assigned to the position. Provide a written report to the relevant Country Director, Regional Director and Regional Business Manager on the results along with a recommended plan for improvements, where applicable.
The review should review compliance at the country and regional level with: Internal and external financial policies/procedures Local HR policies and statutory requirements Insurance coverage Internal and external Purchasing policies Flight Operations Compliance (where applicable), both for owned and chartered aircraft/drones. Grant Compliance both financial and operational Review the completeness and timely updating of the institutional budget. Capacity building: Motivate, coach and develop country finance teams, For example: This role will be integral in assisting the local offices in the recruitment and annual reviews for financial staff in the country offices within the region.
Training field staff on WCS financial policies and procedures, SAP functionality, troubleshooting issues related to ECC, and Citrix etc. Support the local offices in project audits and in some cases provide leadership for project audits. Perform other duties as determined by the Regional Controller. Qualification RequirementsMinimal Requirements:
Minimum Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area 3 - 5 years of experience, INGO sector or audit firm experience highly preferred SAP experience would be helpful Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical accounting skills Experience in consolidation accounting, external reporting skills, process/control documentation preferred Experience with the Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively; ability to work with others within the department and company; must be able to interact effectively with the leadership team Troubleshooting skills and must be an objective, fact-based decision-maker Can handle multiple tasks with different (tight) deadlines and stakeholders Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal) & strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills Excellent English language skills are required (read, write, speak) Salary RangeCompetitive salary commensurate with experience
