The RoleXPENG is seeking a highly motivated contract and compliance lawyer to join our EU legal team based in Amsterdam.
In this full-time role, you will support marketing, sales, and other business units in EMEA on a variety of commercial transactions and compliance matters. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commercial contract law, along with a strong interest in GDPR, competition law, consumer protection laws, and regulatory compliance. As the first point of contact for the legal team, you will oversee contract-related issues and ensure compliance with EU regulations. This role requires daily communication with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, adaptability in a fast-paced environment, and a proactive approach to legal challenges.
A background combining law firm and in-house experience is ideal, with prior experience in the automotive industry preferred. Some travel may be required. Responsibilities: Act as the primary legal contact for EU business units, advising on all contract-related matters (B2B and B2C agreements), including distribution agreements, national sales agreements, procurement agreements, warranty agreements, and XPENG purchase terms and conditions. Collaborate with internal legal specialists or external counsel on IP, GDPR, product compliance, and other legal issues related to contract drafting and review.
Provide regulatory and compliance advice on matters tied to contracts, such as competition law, consumer protection laws, GDPR, product safety standards, and after-sales service regulations in Europe. Develop, implement, and continually improve compliance programs, including GDPR, product compliance, and after-sales service compliance, ensuring adherence to EU regulations. Manage legal disputes, including those related to compliance violations or contractual breaches. Conduct periodic legal training for business teams on contract law, compliance requirements, and best practices. Oversee corporate governance matters and provide support on employment law issues as needed. Administer external counsel relationships, including managing compliance-related legal services. Requirements:
Qualified lawyer with outstanding academic credentials. 3-5 years of experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing complex commercial contracts; prior experience in the automotive industry is a plus. Strong understanding of EU competition law, consumer protection laws, GDPR, product compliance regulations, and after-sales service requirements in Europe. Confident self-starter with exceptional communication skills (oral and written). Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines. Hands-on problem-solving mentality, comfortable advising on legal matters beyond core expertise. Track record of initiative, proactive work, resourcefulness, and process improvement.
Cultural sensitivity and adaptability in a fast-paced, international environment. Fluency in English; proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin) or another major European language is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Preferred Additional Skills: Experience in implementing compliance programs, particularly in GDPR, product safety, and after-sales service regulations. Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulatory frameworks in EMEA. Ability to analyze and interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements for business applicability.
