1 killed in San Rafael rollover crash; beer bottles found at scene

(KRON) — One person was killed Sunday when a gray 2012 Jeep Liberty veered off Highway 101 and rolled into a ditch south of McInnis Parkway in San Rafael around 2:55 a.m. California Highway Patrol Officers responded and found the Jeep on its roof, partially submerged in water. The driver was the only person in the Jeep at the time of the crash. The victim was found dead inside the Jeep from their injuries. “Witnesses at the scene related the driver was driving at a high rate of speed and veered across all lanes prior to the crash,” CHP said. Empty beer bottles were found outside the Jeep at the scene of the crash, according to CHP. It's unclear at this time if the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the person’s death and CHP is investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.
