Arkansas forces overtime, beats UCA to avoid Musick’s 1st loss

The University of Arkansas women's basketball team avoided the first loss of Coach Kelsi Musick's tenure on Monday night, needing overtime to take down Central Arkansas 89-77 at Walton Arena in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks entered the fourth quarter down 61-57 and trailed 74-67 after Jenna Cook made a three-pointer with 2:37 left to play. Arkansas scored the final seven points of regulation, four by freshman guard Bonnie Deas, to force overtime. Emily Robinson made the game-tying three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the fourth after a made free throw and three-pointer by Deas. Arkansas outscored UCA 15-3 in the overtime period. Taleyah Jones went 1 of 2 from the free-throw line, Robinson made two free throws and Maria Anais Rodriguez made a three-pointer off an assist by Deas for Arkansas, while Paris Santacaterina made one free throw for UCA's only point in that stretch. Bree Stephens made a jumper for the Sugar Bears to cut the lead to 80-77 with 1:12 to play in overtime, but Harmonie Ware quickly rebuilt the Razorbacks' lead to five points by making 2 of 2 on a trip to the free-throw line. Rodriguez made a free throw and Ware made a layup to extend Arkansas' lead to 85-77 with 31 seconds to play. Ware made two free throws, then assisted on Rodriguez' layup as time expired following a missed three-pointer by Shae Littleford. Deas led the Razorbacks (3-0) with 18 points on 5-of-15 shooting, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Ware scored 14 points, Rodriguez put up 13 and Robinson had 12 for Arkansas. After scoring a career-high 26 points in a 101-49 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday, Jenna Lawrence finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal. The Razorbacks shot 26 of 72 (36.1%) from the field and 9 of 26 (34.6%), both season-worst percentages, but drew 27 fouls and made 28 of 36 (77.8%) free throws. Arkansas outrebounded UCA 50-47, while both teams finished with 13 assists and 10 turnovers. Cheyanne Kemp scored a game-high 19 points for the Sugar Bears (1-2) on 8-of-24 shooting, while Bree Stephens grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds to go with 16 points while going 6 of 12 from the field. Littleford scored 16 points and Jenna Cook added 13 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Cook made 3 of 5 from three-point range. The Sugar Bears shot 30 of 77 (39.0%) from the field, 7 of 29 (24.1%) from three-point range and 10 of 16 (62.5%) from the free-throw line. WISconsin-MILWAUKEE 92, UALR 72 Following a back-and-forth first half, Wisconsin-Milwaukee outscored Arkansas-Little Rock 51-34 in the second to create separation on its way to a comfortable 20-point win Monday evening in Milwaukee. Amar Augillard poured in 21 of his game-high 25 points in the first half to lead Wis.-Milwaukee (2-1). Augillard shot 9 of 16 from the floor and 6 of 13 from three-point range. He made all six of his three-pointers before halftime. Seth Hubbard scored 18 points in the win, while Esyah Pippa-White and Danilo Jovanovich finished with 13 and 10, respectively. The Panthers shot 53.6% (30 of 56) from the field and 46.7% (14 of 30) from three-point range. Braxton Bayless paced UALR (1-1) with a team-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Johnathan Lawson scored 15 points, while Cameron Wallace added 13 points and five rebounds off the bench. The Trojans turned the ball over 15 times, which led to 29 points off turnovers for the Panthers. Wis.-Milwaukee had 18 assists and came up with eight steals.
