Bihar Assembly election results 2025: Lalu Yadav’s son Tej Pratap Yadav trails far behind in Mahua

Lalu Prasad Yadav's older son, Tej Pratap Yadav, is being left behind this election, as he is currently trailing in the fourth position in the Mahua constituency. Tej Yadav had formed his own party after being expelled from his father's party, the RJD. He had founded the Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) this year and is contesting independently. LJP (RV)'s candidate Sanjay Kumar Singh is leading at the Mahua seat with over 6000 votes after the sixth round of counting. He currently holds about 19,106 votes in the most recent update and is continuing to widen the gap. In May 2025, Lalu Yadav expelled his son Tej from the party for six years, citing his 'irresponsible behavior' and failure to conform to probity and family values. After the split, Tej began the JJD and then announced an alliance with five smaller parties in Bihar in August, including the Vanchit Vikaas Insaan Party, Bhojpuriya Jan Morcha, Pragatisheel Janata Party, Wajib Adhikar Party, and Sanyukt Kisan Vikas Party. The current sitting MLA in Mahua is the RJD candidate Mukesh Kumar Raushan, who had won the seat in 2020 with 62,580, whihc made up 36.45 per cent of the votes. He is currently trailing at the second place and struggling to catch up. The NDA fielded Sanjay Kumar Singh of the LJP in the constituency, who is now leading the race. In the 2020 elections, he finished third with 25,146 votes, making up 14.65 per cent of the votes. Tej Yadav has failed to make an impact in the polls so far with no significant numbers. Meanwhile, his younger brother, RJD chief, Tejashwi Yadav, is trailing from his constituency, Raghopur, by 3000 votes at the third round of counting. He had won the constituency in 2020 and 2015.
