Cayman Islands Parliament Hosts Post-Elections Seminar to Strengthen Democratic Engagement
GEORGE TOWN, 17th October 2025
The Parliament of the Cayman Islands will host a Post-Elections Seminar from 21st to 24th October 2025, bringing together distinguished delegates from across the Commonwealth for three days of dialogue, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.
Delegates will include representatives from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (UK), Bermuda Parliament, States Assembly of Jersey, Scottish Parliament, Parliament of the Turks and Caicos Islands, and Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago, alongside local guests and former parliamentarians of the Cayman Islands, including Mr. Arden McLean, and the most recent former Speaker of the House, Sir Alden McLaughlin.
This seminar aims to provide an opportunity for newly elected Members of Parliament to gain a deeper understanding of parliamentary democracy, while offering returning Members a valuable refresher on key principles and evolving practices.
Key topics throughout the seminar will include, among others:
– Exploring the Use of AI in Parliaments
– The Evolution of Parliamentary Democracy in the Cayman Islands
– Behaviour, Ethics and Standards
Youth Parliament to Participate for the First Time.
The Cayman Islands Youth Parliamentarians will be formally included in the Post-Elections Seminar for the very first time. They will meet with visiting delegates for a Q&A session, offering them a unique opportunity to engage directly with experienced parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth.
This initiative reflects Parliament’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders, empowering young people to understand parliamentary resources better, and fostering early civic engagement.
“This seminar provides an invaluable platform to strengthen parliamentary knowledge, share best practices, and foster meaningful connections across the Commonwealth,” said Honourable Speaker of the House, Hon. D. Ezzard Miller. “We are especially proud to include the Youth Parliament this year — ensuring our young people have a seat at the table and the opportunity to learn and contribute to the democratic process.”
The Clerk of Parliament, Zena Merren-Chin, expressed her gratitude for the assistance of the CPA UK Branch in facilitating the Seminar.
The Post-Elections Seminar is part of Parliament’s ongoing efforts to enhance governance, promote democratic engagement, and strengthen ties within the commonwealth network.
