Looking for Work in Spain? These Industries Are About to Explode

If you’ve been job-hunting in Spain recently, you might have noticed the shift. Fewer roles in the usual sectors, more ads shouting about software developers, cloud engineers, cybersecurity analysts… It’s not a glitch. It’s the reality of a job market that’s reinventing itself at full speed.

The fast rise of digital services – from online shopping to AI-driven banking – is transforming what employers need. And according to InfoJobs, STEAM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) are not just in demand – they’re leading the charge.

In other words: tech is no longer “the future” – it’s “the now.”

Digital jobs are becoming the safest bet

The numbers speak for themselves. Throughout 2025, InfoJobs recorded more than 146,000 openings across STEAM areas. And the trend is expected to stick – or even expand – into 2026.

October alone brought:

8,753 roles in engineering and technical fields
7,336 roles in computing and telecommunications

That’s thousands of companies trying to hire people with digital brains – and often struggling to fill the roles. It’s not that Spain lacks talent completely; it’s that the demand is outrunning the supply.

Another strong factor? Highly competitive industries now see digital expertise as the main way to stay alive – and profitable. So even if budgets tighten elsewhere, tech recruitment tends to keep going.

Jobs aren’t only in Madrid and Barcelona anymore

Here’s where the story gets interesting. Spain used to push thousands of graduates into the two big capitals every year because that’s where nearly all technology jobs lived. Not anymore.

Some of the fastest-growing recruitment hotspots today can be found in:

Jerez de la Frontera
Outskirts of Sevilla and Valencia

These areas are reinventing themselves as affordable bases for tech teams, especially now that remote and hybrid work allow companies to settle wherever costs are lower.

The message is clear:
You no longer have to leave your hometown to have a digital career – the career may come to you.

What kinds of roles are booming?

If you’re imagining only Silicon Valley-style developers writing endless lines of code, think again.

Among the roles currently hiring strongly:

Video-game programmers (yes, really – even in Mallorca!)
Junior data analysts, working out what all those numbers actually mean
Machine learning and AI specialists, helping companies automate smartly
Cloud operations experts, keeping everything running behind the scenes
ERP software developers, building business systems from scratch

These careers mix creativity, maths, problem-solving and sometimes a surprising amount of teamwork. They’re not always high-profile, but they pay well and grow fast.

Why now? And why so many?

Three simple reasons:

1- Digitalisation is everywhere
Even restaurants are using AI to plan menus and stock.

2- Companies waited too long to modernise
Now they’re hiring in a rush – all at once.

3- Tech roles help boost productivity
When skilled specialists arrive, businesses become more competitive. Investors like that.

And unlike many sectors where contracts feel temporary or uncertain, tech workers often have better stability and growth opportunities.

Spain still has one big challenge

While recent graduates and retrained professionals are snapping up roles, many workers over 35 feel left behind. The digital jump can seem huge if you’ve spent your career in hospitality, retail or construction.

But experts emphasise something important:
skills can be learned – and Spain is pushing harder on digital training than ever before.

If you can adapt – even slowly – there’s room for you.

A job revolution that’s only just beginning

The old idea of a “safe” career in Spain – a state job or traditional industry – isn’t disappearing. But it’s no longer the only path that leads to security.

Tech and STEAM professions are showing another route:
creative, future-proof, and increasingly accessible – no matter where you live.

As we move into 2026, the biggest winners will be those willing to evolve with the market. Because this isn’t just a hiring trend. It’s a permanent shift in how Spain works, grows and sees its place in the world.

And if you’ve ever been curious about learning something digital? Now might be the perfect time to leap.
