Mallika Sukumaran Slams Industry Insiders Over Online Hate Against Son Prithviraj: ‘Deliberate Attempt to Eliminate Him’

Veteran actress Mallika Sukumaran has come out in support of his son Prithviraj amid the ongoing controversy over the iconic Malayalam actor’s latest film Vilaayath Budha. She has sharply reacted to the online attack targeted at his son, calling it an alleged attempt by ‘industry insiders’ to end ‘Prithviraj Sukumaran’s career’.
While Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shammi Thilakan’s action drama continues its theatrical run, the film has sparked a controversy over its plot, leading to an alleged online hate campaign against the popular actor. Vilaayath Budha was released in theatres on November 21.
Mallika Sukumara Blames Industry Insiders
In a conversation with Malayala Manorama, Malllika emphasised that Prithviraj Sukumaran is being singled out through cyberattacks and noted that none of the actors’ associations in the Malayalam film industry have come out in his support.
“When certain attacks are launched against Prithviraj, there are few organisations and individuals here to speak out against it. They are blatantly abusing him online, mostly targeting only him.”
The veteran actress added, “Several people are also unhappy with actor Thilakan’s son, Shammi Thilakan, gaining popularity in Malayalam cinema. No organisation is willing to give proper clarity, even when we ask about it. There is a deliberate attempt to eliminate Prithviraj as an actor from the industry, orchestrated by people within Malayalam cinema.”
The veteran actress added that unless authorities address these incidents appropriately, she will keep raising her concerns wherever possible. Her remarks came after several online accounts allegedly shared derogatory comments about the actor and his latest film, Vilaayath Budha.
Mallika Sukumaran Slams Cyber Hate On Social Media
She also took to Facebook to appreciate those who came out in support of her son, while sharply reacting to negative comments about the actor and his latest film on social media platforms. She appreciated Shammi Thilakan for coming out in support of Prithviraj.

She also shared a video of Shammi Thilakan, where the actor is seen admiring Prithviraj. In the video, the actor said, “It’s only because of Prithviraj that I was able to play the role of Bhaskaran Mash in Vilaayath Budha. He is someone who has the heart to give an actor like me a character with more screen space than the hero. If it had been someone else, I would have never received such a role. For that, I will remain indebted to Raju (Prithviraj) and the film’s director for the rest of my life.”
Recently, the film’s producer, Sandeep Senan, filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell against a YouTube channel for misinterpretation of the movie’s story to instigate communal tension in the state.
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming films
Prithviraj Sukumaran will be next seen in the action-drama Khalifa, which is expected to hit theatres during Onam 2026. The actor is currently filming for Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi and the Malayalam film I, Nobody.
