Michael DeLano dead: Ocean's Eleven and Charlie's Angels star dies as wife pays tribute

Michael DeLano has died at the age of 84. The actor - who starred in Ocean's Eleven - died back in October, his wife confirmed today as she remembered her husband on what would have been his 85th birthday.

Michael's wife of 28 years and partner of 38 years confirmed today that Michael died last month after suffering a heart attack. The actor died in a hospital in Las Vegas, according to wife Jean DeLano.

The actor was known for starring as casino manager Walsh in the 2001 hit film Ocean’s Eleven and he also played firefighter Sonny Caputo in ABC’s Firehouse back in the 1970s. He had starring roles in 1970s drama Rhoda as well as Supertrain back in 1979.

Born Michael Ace Del Fatti in Virginia on November 26, 1940, the actor changed his last name to DeLano for his career after seeing a neon sign on a hotel with that name. He started his career as a regular dancer on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand.

Following his dancing career, he served as a paratrooper in the US Army. He also starred in Catlow and The New Centurions as well as TV shows like Adam-12, Kojak, Banacek and Barnaby Jones amongst others.

Tributes have flooded in for the actor, with one fan writing: "Rest in peace DeLano. You'll be missed." Another shared: "One of my favourite movie scenes of all time in Commando. RIP Michael Delano."

A third wrote: "Aye, what a character he was! He brought a bit of sparkle to the screen—better to remember him for the laughs than the tears on a day like this."

Whilst fans may know him for many roles, his part in Steven Soderbergh's 2001 remake of Ocean's Eleven will be where he's most recognisable from. He starred as a Las Vegas casino manager working for Terry Benedict, who was played by Andy García. He reprised the role three years later for its sequel, Ocean's Twelve.

The actor is survived by his daughter, Bree; grandsons Michael and Lincoln and granddaughter Jaxon.
