REFLECTION IN ACTION: Is People-Centred Justice Just A Buzzword?

The Question: In today’s development world, the expression “people-centred justice” has become a familiar term – appearing in policies, programme documents, and strategies. But has it become a buzzword used to justify what we’ve always done? Or isit a concept that’s truly changing the way we see and do justice?

From the very beginning, “people-centred justice” has been at the heart of the JJCP, shaping every activity – from generative dialogue to integrative justice solutions. The goal has never been just to resolve one more case, but to respond to the deeper needs of the parties and their communities.

However, during generative dialogue sessions, it became clear that justice is still largely viewed through the lens of institutions: which system – formal or traditional – should intervene in which case and solve it? Instead, we should be asking: what are the needs of the parties, and how can all justice stakeholders co-design the best possible interventions to support. Read more here
