Sabah polls: Strong ties with Putrajaya crucial for Sabah’s future, says Anwar

TUARAN: Ties with the Federal Government are crucial when it comes to ensuring Sabah’s future, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, said this allows any requests to be brought to both the Cabinet and relevant authorities.

He stressed that the federal government will honour its commitment and implement Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement immediately, as said in Parliament.

“The reason for Malaysia’s progress is not because of the Prime Minister alone but the strong team supporting him, from the ministries and state governments.

“Its teamwork and for this reason, we need a strong federal and state government, especially a Sabah state government that can work well with the federal government for the people,” he said during a programme here on Thursday (Nov 27).

Also present was caretaker chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Anwar added that he chose to come to Tuaran to show appreciation for Hajiji.

“Yes, he is from GRS but we are working well together. Despite being from different sides, there is cooperation,” he said, adding that it has always been easy to work with Hajiji.

Anwar also chided those who had supported “anti-Federal” sentiments.

“There is no need to fight. Whenever this happens, it is the people who will suffer,” he said.

Anwar is scheduled to head to Bongawan later Thursday before having programmes with the youth and communities.
