West Nile mourns respected educationist, elder Donato Amabua

West Nile is mourning the demise of a respected senior citizen and also former district chair of the greater Arua district, Mzee Donato Amabua.Late Amabua, who served the region and nation in different capacities, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the age of 95.His departure marks the end of a remarkable life lived in service to his family, community, region and the nation at large.Amabua, who headed many primary schools, including Ndirea Primary School in Terego district, was also the county chief of Terego in the 1970s.As tributes continue to flow in, many have described the late Amabua not only as a respected leader but also a valued elder in the community.Muni University Vice-Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini, who looks forward to emulating the legacy of the late Amabua, described the deceased as a luminary of the region, an education icon and champion of the truth at all times.Former district chair of the greater Arua Richard Andama Ferua, who had countless good times with the late, said the West Nile sub-region has lost a shining star and a library of knowledge whose legacy will continue to remind the region and its citizens of moral obligations during active service.By press time, the family, friends and well-wishers were yet to hold a meeting to draw a funeral and burial program.Former Ayivu county MP Hon Bernard Atiku said, “When you hear teachers reciting the motto of UNATU, "Because We are! The Nation is", some faces automatically surface, and one of those faces that will forever depict the UNATU motto is that of Hon. Mwalimu Donato Amabua.
