Detectives are intensifying the search for missing mother Samantha Murphy, who vanished two years ago. Despite a suspect being charged, her body has not been found, prompting ongoing investigations and searches in various locations.

Side by side': First treaty signed into law

Authorities are ramping up efforts to locate the remains of Samantha Murphy, a 51-year-old mother who went missing from Ballarat almost two years ago. Murphy was last seen leaving her residence on Eureka Street for a run in the Canadian State Forest on February 4, 2024. Her disappearance deeply affected the local community and garnered national attention, sparking numerous search initiatives with the help of volunteers.

Charged Suspect and Ongoing Search

In March 2024, police arrested 23-year-old tradesman Patrick Orren Stephenson and charged him with Murphy's murder. Despite this development, the search for Murphy's body remains unresolved. Over the past year, extensive search operations have been conducted, focusing on areas like the Enfield State Park, Canadian Forest, and Buninyong Bushland Reserve.

Recent Search Efforts

Missing persons detectives recently scoured locations around Ballarat in a bid to uncover new leads. Although specific details of the search areas have not been disclosed, previous searches near Grenville's Enfield State Forest yielded vital evidence. Murphy's phone was discovered buried in mud near an agricultural dam in May, prompting further investigation.

Police Operations and Public Cooperation

A Victoria Police spokeswoman emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation, stating that authorities are actively pursuing leads and conducting small-scale searches. Despite the community's eagerness to assist, the police have urged the public to refrain from participating in the search efforts at this time.
