As somebody who can get distracted by social networking and videos really easily, I love the idea of e-book readers — they let me concentrate on a book without the temptation to switch to TikTok. That’s why I find Onyx’s Boox Palma 2 so attractive. It’s about the same size as a smartphone, it’s eminently portable, and offers a clean E-Ink screen with enough battery life for days of comfortable reading. Unfortunately, it is usually pretty expensive at $329, but it’s now on sale at Wellbots for $269.99, and if you add the code VERGEBOOX25 at checkout, you can get the e-reader for an impressive $244.99, a total savings of $84.

The Palma 2 is not just a reader, of course. You can listen to music and podcasts while you’re reading, and it even comes with a 16-megapixel camera to help you scan documents. It does allow you to install your Android apps, but you may not want to add all of them; according to our reviewer, this e-reader can be really slow, and “God help you if you ever try to play a game or watch a video.” But that’s not the point of the device, is it? With 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, there is plenty of room for lots of reading material. Read our review.
