WAEC releases 2025 WASSCE results; nearly 6,300 subject results canceled

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, covering only the Ghana version.

In a statement dated November 29, 2025, WAEC said it has provided login details to heads of schools to enable them access the results. Candidates may also check their results online via the Council’s website.

“The Council will make available login details to Heads of school to enable them to access the results of their candidates,” the statement noted.

It added that the results “have been hosted online, and candidates who so desire may access their results” through the official WAEC platform.

WAEC also issued a caution to candidates and parents to avoid fraudsters who promise to alter results for a fee.

“The Council would like to caution all its stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results… WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated using its results verification system,” it stressed.

Performance statistics

A total of 461,736 candidates – comprising 207,415 males and 254,321 females from 1,021 schools – registered for the exam. This represents a slight 0.24% increase over the 2024 figure. WAEC reported that 5,821 candidates (1.26%) were absent.

Performance across the four core subjects showed mixed outcomes:

English Language: 69.00% scored A1–C6

Mathematics (Core): 48.73% scored A1–C6

Integrated Science: 57.74% scored A1–C6

Social Studies: 55.82% scored A1–C6

WAEC noted that “Table 2 shows fluctuating trends in performance of candidates in all the core subjects over the four-year period.”

Thousands punished for exam irregularities

The Ghana Examinations Committee, at its 40th meeting on November 17, 2025, approved significant sanctions following investigations into irregularities.

According to WAEC:

Subject results of 6,295 candidates were cancelled “for bringing foreign material like prepared notes, text books, and printed material into the examination halls.”

Entire results of 653 candidates were cancelled for “possession of mobile phones in the examination halls.”

Subject results of 908 candidates and entire results of 158 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.

Additionally, results from candidates in 185 schools have also been withheld over alleged collusion.

WAEC says it is “working around the clock to ensure that the withheld results… are published before the end of December, 2025 depending on the outcome of investigations.”

The Council further disclosed that 35 individuals, including 19 teachers, were found to have engaged in actions compromising the exam’s integrity.

“So far 19 of them have been arraigned before court and have been convicted to fines or terms of imprisonment,” with the remaining 16 to be handed over to the courts.

WAEC says the list of implicated teachers will be submitted to the Ghana Education Service for additional disciplinary measures.

Gratitude to stakeholders

WAEC expressed appreciation to all partners who played key roles in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination.

“The Council expresses its sincerest gratitude to stakeholders especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Heads of School, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners and all who in diverse ways supported it in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results,” the release noted.
