India records lowest retail inflation drop in October, GST rate cuts helped

New Delhi [India], November 12 (ANI): India’s retail inflation fell sharply to 0.25 per cent in October 2025, lowest year-on-year inflation of the current CPI series, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Wednesday. There is decrease of 119 basis points in headline inflation of October, 2025 in comparison to September, 2025.Food inflation, a key parameter, declined to (-) 5.02 per cent in October, data showed. A decrease of 269 basis points is observed in food inflation in October, 2025 in comparison to September, 2025. The food inflation in October, 2025 is the lowest of the current CPI series. The impact of reduction in GST was visible across all sectors. The decline in headline inflation and food inflation during the month of October, 2025 is mainly attributed to full month’s impact of decline in GST, favorable base effect and to drop in inflation of Oils and fats, Vegetables, Fruits, Egg, Footwear, Cereals and products, Transport and Communication etc, the ministry said in a statement.“Going ahead, while the inflation trajectory is likely to remain benign, RBI will need to filter the festive and GST related demand from the cyclical recovery. We remain skeptical on the sustainability of the recent pickup in economic activity and hence see some room for further monetary easing,” Upasna Bhardwaj, Chief Economist, Kotak Mahindra Bank, said.Following are top five major states with high year-on-year inflation for the month of October, 2025:Inflation has been a concern for many countries, including advanced economies, but India has largely managed to steer its inflation trajectory well. The RBI held its benchmark repo rate steady at 6.5 per cent for the eleventh consecutive time, before cutting it for the first time in about five years in February 2025.Analysts expect inflation to remain under control, allowing the RBI to focus on supporting economic growth. The recent repo cuts were quite an indication.“The MPC is likely to pare its CPI inflation projection for FY2026 further from 2.6% (as mentioned in October 2025 meeting), driven by the soft sequential momentum in food prices as well as the impact of the GST rate rationalisation on several items in the CPI basket,” Aditi Nayar, Chief Economist, ICRA, said.“This, along with the dovish tone of the October 2025 policy document, would support a 25-bps rate cut in the December 2025 policy review, unless Q2 FY2026 GDP growth surprises on the upside,” Nayar added. “However, data releases in the run up to the policy meeting on December 5, 2025, including those on the Q2 FY2026 GDP, and October 2025 trade and IIP numbers, which are key to assess the impact of the US tariffs and GST rationalisation on growth, would also guide the policy decision. The December 2025 MPC review remains a close call, in our view.” (ANI)

Ronaldo expects his 6th World Cup at age 41 next year is ''definitely'' his last

Riyadh, Nov 11 (AP) Cristiano Ronaldo said on Tuesday he expects his record sixth World Cup next year at age 41 will be his last. “Definitely, yes, because I will be 41 years old,” Ronaldo told CNN anchor Becky Anderson in a live video link from Portugal’s training camp to a tourism conference in Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo clarified that when he says he will retire from soccer “soon” that should mean “probably one, two years.” Portugal should seal qualification in the coming days for the World Cup that will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The team needs just two points from its final qualifying group games at Ireland on Thursday and hosting last-placed Armenia on Sunday. Ronaldo’s five goals in four qualifying games have extended his men’s world record to 143 for a national team. “I feel very good in this moment. I score goals, I still feel quick and sharp, I’m enjoying my game in the national team,” he said. In regard to the end of his playing career, Ronaldo said, “Let’s be honest, when I mean soon I mean probably one, two years. “I’m enjoying the moment. But when I mean soon, it’s really soon, because I give everything for football. I’m in the game for the last 25 years, I did everything. “I have many records. I’m really proud. So let’s enjoy the moment, live the moment.” Ronaldo and his great rival Lionel Messi are heading to their record sixth World Cups. That would break a tie with German great Lothar Matthäus who played at each World Cup from 1982-98. Argentina captain Messi is going as the defending champion and will turn 39 during the group stage in North America. Portugal and Argentina are among the co-hosts of the 2030 World Cup, giving Ronaldo and Messi the chance to exit the World Cup stage at home. (AP) PDS PDS

The third edition of ‘Niveshak Shivir’ was held on November 1. The investor outreach initiative aims to assist shareholders in reclaiming unpaid dividends and unclaimed shares, thereby reducing the volume of unclaimed investor assets in the system, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in a statement. The Shivir was organised in collaboration with key market infrastructure institutions (MIIs) — BSE, NSE, CDSL and NSDL, along with registrar and transfer agents (RTAs) including KFin Technologies, MUFG Intime India, and Bigshare Services. The event drew participation from over 223 investors and claimants from Amritsar and neighbouring regions, it said. Noel Tata's son Neville appointed as trustee of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust

Mumbai, Nov 11 (PTI) Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata’s son Neville was on Tuesday inducted as a trustee on the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. Sir Dorabji Tata Trust is the single-largest shareholder having 27.98 per cent ownership in Tata Sons, the holding company of the salt-to-software conglomerate. The move comes days after the end of a simmering battle between two factions — one led by Noel and another by the late Ratan Tata’s confidante Mehli Mistry — in the affairs of the string of trusts that together hold a 66 per cent stake in Tata Sons. Mistry was voted out of the major trusts and let matters be without putting up a legal challenge as was widely expected. The Board of Trustees’ decision to appoint the 32-year-old Neville, who is reported to have joined his father’s business Trent in 2016 and has been leading the successful clothing retail chain Zudio, was unanimous, as per a statement. Neville’s appointment, which is widely seen as Noel consolidating his grip on the trusts holding his family name, is from Wednesday and for a period of three years, it said. The board of trustess of Sir Dorabji Trust also appointed Tata Group veteran Bhaskar Bhat, who has held various positions, including leading the watchmaker Titan, and also being the brand custodian, as a trustee. It also appointed Venu Srinivasan as a trustee for a period of three years, the statement said, adding that this is in in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The Maharashtra government had recently tweaked rules after which no trustee can be appointed for life, due to which the tenure of Srinivasan, who is reported to be close to Noel, is cut down to three years. Srinivasan has also been designated as the vice chairman of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the statement said. PTI AA TRB

Pak PM Sharif calls upon world to stand united in promoting peace

Islamabad, Nov 11 (PTI) Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday called upon the world to stand united in promoting peace, advancing sustainable development and strengthening collective security. “Pakistan has always advocated for peace through dialogue and diplomacy. We firmly believe that peace and security form the foundation of sustainable national and regional development,” Shehbaz said while addressing the Inter-parliamentary Speakers’ Conference here. He noted that the true value of peace is most profoundly understood when “we are confronted with the conflicts that continue to plague our world,” according to state-run Radio Pakistan. He mentioned that Pakistan, too, has faced this turbulence both directly and indirectly. “However, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to maintaining peace and tranquility,” he said. Pakistan believes in a peaceful neighbourhood and has been striving hard for this purpose, but militant groups continue to imperil peace not only within Afghanistan but also beyond its borders, he said. Referring to the attacks on Pakistan’s border posts last month, he said, “Our response was firm and decisive, teaching an unforgettable lesson to those who attacked Pakistan”. He urged Afghanistan to understand that lasting peace can only be realised by reigning in the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and other terrorist groups operating on Afghan territory. Shehbaz also highlighted the reforms carried out by his government to promote inclusive growth. Delegations from Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Palestine, Algeria, Barbados, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kenya, Tajikistan, Morocco, Maldives, Serbia, the Philippines, and Rwanda are attending the two-day event along with Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and parliamentary representatives from over 40 countries. Organisers said the event aims to provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and exchange of best practices among parliamentary leaders. PTI SH ZH ZH

Rajasthan: 55 kg opium husk seized, trafficker held

Jodhpur, Nov 11 (PTI) The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Rajasthan seized 544 kilograms of illegal doda post (opium husk), a stolen SUV, 35 live cartridges and multiple fake number plates in a joint operation with Jodhpur Police. ANTF IG Vikas Kumar said on Tuesday that the operation was carried out jointly by the Jodhpur City and Jodhpur Rural ANTF units after the team received inputs about a large consignment of drugs being transported in the region. Acting on the tip-off, the team tracked the suspected SUV for nearly 20 kilometres. “As police teams closed in, the traffickers tried to ram the police vehicle several times. Our teams managed to intercept them, forcing the accused off the main road and into a densely vegetated area,” Kumar said. The vehicle which the accused were in eventually crashed into an electric pole. One of the traffickers allegedly pointed a pistol at the police team in an attempt to threaten them, but officers managed to apprehend him before he could flee. The second accused escaped under the cover of darkness. A total of 544 kilograms of doda post packed in 27 sacks was recovered from the vehicle. Officials also seized 35 live cartridges, an empty pistol magazine, and six fake high-security number plates bearing registration numbers from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Kerala and Gujarat. “The accused used to change number plates every 50-60 km to avoid identification,” the IG said. Police found that the vehicle’s engine and chassis numbers had been completely tampered with. The accused confessed that they used stolen vehicles for smuggling to avoid evidence in case of interception, officials said. The arrested trafficker was identified as Gokal Ram, a resident of Barmer district. Preliminary investigation revealed that Gokal Ram had been involved in illegal trade for over 15 years and had multiple criminal cases registered against him. After dropping out of school in Class 6, he initially became involved in liquor smuggling between 2011 and 2015, transporting illicit consignments from Haryana to Gujarat. Several of his trucks, each carrying 800 to 1,000 cartons of liquor, were seized in Churu, Jaipur and Balotra during that period, officials noted. He was arrested several times in connection with those cases and later turned to drug trafficking for higher profits. PTI SDA MPL MPL

Let's aim for our own robust, credible, world class rating institution: Goyal

New Delhi, Nov 11 (PTI) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said that as India moves towards the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, there is a need to establish a robust, credible, and world-class rating institution from within the country. Goyal said that despite strong fundamentals, India’s rating was not upgraded for long by global rating agencies. “As we move towards Viksit Bharat 2047, let’s aim for our own robust credible world class rating institution from India,” he said here at CareEdge Global-The Dialogue. He said that credit rating agencies have an important role in the virtuous cycle of growth. “…the investors look at the ratings that the agency gives, basis that you raise investments, you also raise business confidence, that business confidence will lead both to capital flows and debt flows. Banks look up to ratings as an important criteria. Credit is extended, entrepreneurs or businesses take bigger and bolder bets with the confidence that they have received from the ratings and jobs are created,” he said. He added that very often even small disturbances or changes in the Indian economy are exaggerated by some of the rating agencies. “The distress signals that they give are disproportionate to what the reality is, and that’s where I would urge CareEdge also to play a responsible role, to help investors, bankers…,” he added. The minister said that he has urged his team to give prominence to ratings done by our own Swadeshi rating agency. PTI RR HVA

NGT allows Mother Dairy's Hapur unit, closed by CAQM, to resume operations

New Delhi, Nov 11 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday passed an interim order allowing a Mother Dairy unit in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district to resume operations after complying with the environmental norms. A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel was hearing an appeal filed by Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Pvt Ltd in Pilkhuwa town of the district, challenging a closure order of October 10 by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR and adjoining areas. Measures under Stages I and II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) have been in force across NCR since October to prevent further deterioration in air quality. Delhi woke up to its worst air quality of the season on Tuesday, with the AQI plunging into the “severe” category at 423. The Centre invoked stricter anti-pollution measures under Stage III of GRAP in the wake of the deteriorating air quality. Advocate Sumeer Sodhi, counsel for the plaintiff, said that the unit was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and that it produced around nine lakh litres of milk and milk products daily. The tribunal said that the CAQM’s closure order had been passed without issuing any showcause notice to the unit, which meant no opportunity of being heard was given to it. Noting that the unit had undertaken to comply with all environmental norms, the tribunal allowed it to submit a detailed reply or representation before the CAQM within three days. It said the CAQM would give an opportunity to hear the unit and would take a decision in accordance with the law within 10 days from the date of receipt of the reply. “Till then, the order under challenge will be treated to be interim in nature and will be subject to the order passed by the CAQM after giving an opportunity of hearing to the appellant (Mother Dairy unit). “Till the fresh order is passed by the CAQM in terms of the above direction, the appellant is permitted to operate the plant by complying with all the environmental norms and instructions issued by the CAQM from time to time,” the tribunal said. Raffaele Palladino replaces the fired Ivan Juric as Atalanta''''s new manager

Bergamo (Italy), Nov 11 (AP) Former Monza and Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino was named Atalanta’s new manager on Tuesday. Palladino replaces Ivan Juric, who was fired on Monday amid a seven-match winless streak in Serie A that has left Atalanta in 13th place. The sacking came two days after a 3-0 loss at home to promoted Sassuolo. The 41-year-old Palladino was successful at Monza and Fiorentina but surprisingly left Fiorentina after guiding the Viola to a sixth-place finish and a run to the Conference League semifinals last season. Atalanta said it signed Palladino through next season. He’ll make his debut at defending champion Napoli next week after the international break. Following consecutive losses that followed five straight draws, Atalanta trails Serie A leaders Inter Milan and Roma by 11 points. Roma is coached by Gasperini, who left Atalanta after nine mostly successful seasons in charge and was replaced by Juric. In the Champions League, Atalanta has two wins, one draw and one loss. Palladino’s second match in charge will be a visit to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League. It’s the fourth coaching change in Serie A this season after moves at Juventus, Genoa and Fiorentina. (AP) ATK
